Please add this mirror to the Registry M 672564 (10 inch) F6.8 Feb 6 1967

Thank you for the addition to the Registry and Welcome to the Cloudy Nights Classic Telescope forum. We have several Cave enthusiasts here with dozens of threads on everything Cave.

I will have this mirror in the next edition of the Registry which I post about every 3 months or 6 new mirrors, whichever comes first.

Hi Jon,

I just noticed that mine 6” Refigured by Cave Optical #R672714 F4.5 26 13/16" F.L. 6-2-67 is no longer on the Registry. I still own it.

Hmmm.....it is in my master spreadsheet and the .pdf I posted. Here is a screen snip of it. What is the date shown at the top on the one you are looking at? It should be 12/10/2021.

The one that comes up when I click the link. Mine (#672714) is missing?

That must be an earlier version that your browser has cached. Refresh the page and the 12/10/2021 version should come up. There are other entries missing from your screenshot so it has to be an old version.

I have never been sure who” Strambach” is,or why it only seems to be on my mirror, and not others. It has thru the years between a very good to great mirror- I have not compared it to many others except S.C.T.’s

and that is no contest.

I have frequently seen mirror coaters engrave an owner's name in a mirror they are recoating so there is no question who to return it to. Strambach is probably a previous owner's last name.

I’ve done that and ascertained the problem. When I click on the link (Cave Mirror Registry) in your signature, rather than bringing me to the *.pdf file, it simply bounces me back to post #1 of this thread which contains a simple screen shot of the first edition of the registry. Where is the link to download the *.pdf file?

Yes, the link in my sig is a link to the beginning of this thread.

I post a link to the updated edition of the registry in each post of this thread when I create an update. If you look at the last one, post 1074 of this thread, the text "Cave Mirror Registry 12/10/2021" is a link to the current edition.

You can bookmark that link and it will always go to the latest edition as I do not change the filename when I upload it.

well,as to “ stambach” on my 10”- when I got the scope many years ago,it still had original coatings- it has been coated twice since then— and the block lettering is the same as the other specs- so the mystery continues!

My 1957 model B deluxe also has a unknown scribe.

No one in the scopes ownership history with the name BECK

The mirror's back does have the usual Cave inscription.

It's possible, it may have been touched up by Ed Beck, it did go back for a

recoat in the late seventies early eighties.

The opticians were not allowed to scribe their names on the mirrors though.

Would like to share my 8" F6.95 or say close to F7 cave mirror that I got in a recent purchased dobsonian telescope. It was obviously been used in the EQ platform before, because I also got a lot of machined aluminum block to form a EQ bracket. It appears to me the previous owner/owners treasure the optical performance of this mirror as I can see a lot of effort was made to built the custom titanium wrapped OTA tube and dobsonian mount. All the allumnum part for the EQ tube holder are custom designed and CNC cut.

The mirror give very good performance at 180x magnification when looking at the moon, Its performance is also very impressive when looking at Jupiter at 180x I can discern a lot surface features. It can not go much higher magnification than that as the view degrade quickly which higher magnification.

On the telescope tube I got its tube has a sticker says "2.15 wavelength/div" ( I am not entirely sure what this mean?)  and "F6.95"

Please see the following picture for the itching text on the edge of the mirror.

It reads:

Cave optical co. (block font)

M# E.Q. 298215 - RF

and another inscription "M# E. Q. "

Looked up the registry did not find many near this serial # range. Love to hear from anyone who know more about the history, quality, or date of this mirror. Its back has no inscriptions. It was told that has been recoated once. the coating is very good to me.
