Hey, I'm still on the hunt for a nice 5 inch mak. I've lost my good deal on the celestron c130... and it was getting dodgey reviews from people on here anyways. so how about the Konus 130? anybody have any experience with it? will it hook up with a celestron C-3 mount?

cheers!

I think you should consider the Orion/SkyWatcher 127/1540 Mak. I feel they have better optics than the C130 do.

I've had my eye on the orion 127 apex or starmax for a while now. but the price on them refuses to drop within an affordable range for me. I know that the celestron 130 mak is getting bad reviews for it's optics and construction quality. I'm wondering if anybody has any insights about the Konus 130 maks.

It's my understanding that the Konus and Celestron 130mm Mak-Cassegrains are both from the same factory: Bosma in China. So, if the Celestron 130 isn't performing well, the Konus likely won't, either.

Sorry!

aw nuts. the konus 130 is in the mail. the price was really unbeatable.
at any rate, coming from a tasco 60mm refractor it almost HAS to be a step up. and the 5inch aperture will be nice for my fuzzy little DSO's. worse to worse, cycle it through ebay and start over on the 'scope hunting' game.

I wouldn't worry too much. I have a Konus 90 that gives great views. The only issue I had was the finder was pretty awful but that was easily corrected. comming from a tasco 60, you should be thrilled with the planetary views!

I had issues with my Konus 130 (my lack of experience not the scope) but really like the Konus 150 I stepped up to. :jump:

When the weather permits the views are super :). We get a lot of fog here after sunset.
