Okay, it might be a little early to post this thread, as registration has not yet opened for it (November, sometime, I think), but what the heck.

Who's going to the 2012 Texas Star Party? I am definitely going to be there, all being well. Also, I am being loaned a 10 inch dob so I can do my own observing programs. It's great to be able to mooch views through the giant dobs but I'd like to have my "own" scope to use while I'm there, so I can do my own stuff and observe the objects too low to see properly from my home at 50°N as well as those below the horizon from home.

Hopefully, Iceland will put corks in its volcanoes this year (there were volcanic eruptions in Iceland affecting flights two years running)...

Hi Faith,

I'm planning on going this year for three nights at the end of the week. Gotta put that 10in f5 Dob through the Galaxy Gauntlet.

Dean, I talked to Tom at ESP. Your chair stayed behind at Okie-Tex. Sorry.

I have never found another chair like that one. Outlaw Dave will pay big time for that! :brick:

I'll be on the Upper Field. All being well, I'll have the use of a 10" Orion dob - better than the 8x42 binoculars I usually bring!

I've got an Astrotech AT-10D Dob. I'll probably roll in on Thurdsay afternoon - hope to see you there.

To put it in Texas terms, Looka Here, Missy, you wander yonder over to our spread at the Grand Canyon Star Party some year and Ah'll gahrontee y'all will have an 18" Teeter to ride at our little rodeo. :wron:

Not trying to BRIBE you or anything like that, Faith. Just sayin'... :roflmao:

I'm planning on going in '12, having missed '11. I normally set up on the NE corner of the upper field next to the star shed.

I just happened to be looking at the Texas Star Party website myself today. Does anyone know if that $50 registration fee for the Star Party is a "per person" fee, or a "per vehicle" fee? I might like to bring the whole family including my parents for a few nights of viewing.

do what I used to do in the 50s when going to a drive-in movie with friends; pack everyone in the trunk and go through/pay the gates as a single

I'm planning to be there again next year. It isn't for certain but we will probably make it. I'll likely have my 12" dob, my 20x125 binos and my couch potato bino chair with 11x80's on it. I'm always looking forward to it.

I missed you in 2010, Mike, and I wasn't there this year. Hopefully we'll see you in 2012. :)

I'm a bit questionable as my mission trip to Costa Rica was changed and now scheduled from April 12 to April 28th. But that trip may move to mid-May...so I can head down there.

Sometimes just before Turkey Day, sometimes just before Xmas. Doesn't matter, we all get in a lottery anyway.
Joe.

Samantha and I will be there...on the lower field. See you all there! Pray for lots of rain in the months leading up to this one.... We don't want a repeat of last year's lighting induced wildfires! !@#$%

Gary, will you have your Orion ED80 with you there at the party? I've been considering getting one but it would be nice to check one out in person first.

Heads up, it is now very unlikely we will be attending TSP this year after all. I just got word I'll be having heart bypass surgery next week, and the recovery period will be long and keep us on one income. I will follow what happens and hope for great observing.
Clear skies and clean glass,
Mike
