The New Hampshire Astronomical Society participated for the first time in First Night celebrations in Portsmouth with telescopes "in the street". Streets were closed, the town was packed and many hundreds of people enjoyed views of Jupiter, the first quarter Moon, Pleiades, etc. Fog was a problem for several hours in the early evening but eventually skies cleared. Another local club, Gloucester, Mass. did the same in their town's First Night celebration and were similarly rewarded with many appreciative comments.
