I just started using a Wireless Autostar with the Meade RCX 10". This hand controller is amazing. It actually frees you up to walk around and look at the sky while the telescope is slewing in a GoTo. It's very convenient to set the scope up or change settings in a chair or walking around without worring about that coiled cord.

Meade has (in my experience) had coiled cords on hand controllers that like to deform after 12 minutes of use. It's just a good feeling not to worry about that aspect of Astronomy any more.

A real plus for this product. Rates a 10.

Jerry ,
Sounds like a big improvment . Any hope that Celestron may follow Meade's advancement ? :)

I sure hope so William. It's one less thing you have to be careful about on those dark nights.

What do you think is the chance that Meade will eventually come out with this feature as an "add-on/upgrade" for all their existing GoTos that are now (out in the field) in use by the rest of us cord-haulers? Think they could manufacture them fast enough?

I thought the wireless worked on all LX200GPS and RCX scopes? I doubt it could be outfitted onto LX200 Classics (at least not for a reasonable cost).

In lieu of waiting on Meade to offer it for their other GoTos, I would gladly settle for an extension (cord/cable) to use with my Autostars.

Anyone know of a simple, safe (for the equipment), and effective way to do this (I'm mechanically/technologically challenged). Is there a product (cord/cable, like from Radio Shack or someone else) that will just easily attach?

What a convenience that would be!

Thanks,

I saw a post with instructions to make an HB extension cord.
If I can find it, I'll post it here.

I'll bet John Crilly could answer the question about LX200 Classic compatibility. I would like to know if it would work on one of those.

Preston is correct. Disregarding the Magellan and CAT setups, there have been three computer controllers used by Meade; the Classic (LX200 and #1697), Autostar (ETX, DS, LXD55/75, LX90), and Autostar II (LX200GPS, RCX400). The wireless Autostar II works only with Autostar II gear.

Told ya so. Man knows everything about scopes.

How would you like to come up against him in court (he is a Lawyer I do believe). It would go something like this....

Mr. Crilly do you have an opening statement: "well judge, in Rockford vs. Barnabus the Ohio appellate court overturned the spousal abuse in an original C-9 orange tube purchase in June, 1970. Judge, I do believe that case was settled on a Tuesday. I ask for a directed verdict before I have to quote more precedents."..............

"Dismissed!!!"

Jerry, is this a Meade prodcut? How much did it cost? I take it this is an AS #497 replacement?

It's a Meade product and it's $249. It only works with Autostar II for the LX200's and RCX-400's.
