Two of the clubs in our area have signed up to provide sidewalk astronomy in the downtown area on First Night (New Years Eve). The city organizers of the events are all really thrilled to have us out there, and this year the moon's phase will be perfect, plus of course Jupiter will be visible. One club is planning on 7pm to 10pm, the other one may go a bit longer. One club has been given a reserved parking space, the other will get free entry for a family member to the First Night events around town.
If you decide to try this, please let us know and post pictures here of how it went, I'll do the same.
Here's hoping for good New Years resolution! :-)
Happy New Year everybody!

My club did this for a few years before the local First Night event was ended. It worked out very well even on one cloudy night when we just turned the scopes on the top of a courthouse dome.
This year we are going to try something new: a “New Year’s Eve Science Festival” for families to be held at our observatory from 2 to 4 PM.
