You can't pay attention to a TV program because you're concentrating on identifying the constellation in the scene's background.

Your bathroom break at a star party includes a red light in the bathroom stall.

Yea, people tend to scream real loud when you start peeing on them in the dark.

Perhaps. But I have a feeling no one is going to want to observe with me.

In all honesty, I do most of my observing on my own and, um, end up peeing by starlight.

I do like the bigger star parties and they're darkroom ambiance in the loo.

In seriousness about my "hardcoreness" I just made a trip that was, eventually, to include my wife - she would fly out to meet me after I'd driven a very long ways.

Turns out I filled the car with so much astronomy equipment that I couldn't fit my wife in, much less her bag. Awkward moment.

When you have broken your ankle but it is a clear night, so you get your aunt to carry one of your telescopes (a small one so no ladders are involved!), eyepieces, a chair, table, notebook and pen outside so you can observe even with your leg in plaster.

You would only be hardcore if you yourself crawled out with the items. But you must be very persuasive!

I know of a radio ham who crawled on hands and knees to set up a 12 foot post for a temporary antenna a few days after breaking his foot at the end of a 15 foot drop caused by a buckling secondhand ladder.

Your telescope sets your house on fire. (See above thread)

Your telescope sets your house on fire and the first question you ask the fire chief is "Is my scope ok?"

Definitely an "Oops there!"

So how did you solve that little crisis?

Well, the awkward moment was on the phone. She, of course, realized she would never fit with the other stuff. Took me a few weeks to come to the same conclusion. So, a week before she was to come she asked the hard question. I made a several hundred mile detour to drop off some of the gear at my father's, then drove back to pick her up. Worked out okay.
