Had a friend pick this up for me the other day on Washington, DC Craigslist. A very obscure Tasco 19T refractor. The scope actually stores inside the pier tube. The owner said her dad had purchased it originally for her boys but they had no interest in it. So it sat unused for many years. There is not much info out there on these but it appears they were mfg between 1972 to 1976 and retailed for around $170. I seem to recall one other CN'r, maybe Actionhac, came across one of these a while back. Anyone else have one of these?

Anyone notice what's missing??

Looks awesome!
There's an empty compartment in the upper right, should there be something there?

Better view of the inside. Everything is in pretty much unused condition, just a little dust.

Bingo!! That's where the cool battery operated "Nite Liter" pen was located. I guess the "kids" thought it was too cool to put back in the box also. I would imagine they were a hit at school with that thing in the mid 70's. Bummer!

Eyepiece tray. You can see the clip that would have held the "pen".

Here's the unique part. This is the inside of the pier tube where the OTA would have been stored.

Very nice 'scope indeed, and quite a singular concept... congratulations, looks like you have an unusual item!

Scott, nice find!! That's a really nice mount it came with!
Just think how different all our first-scope experiences would have been with alt-az mounts that actually worked.....

Nice Telescope!

Steve Miller got one of these from an Astromart auction, IIRC.

You do IIRC, IIRC!

It was formerly in John Siple's (Habsburg8) collection here in Oregon.

I do. Really neat scope. I also have the Nitewriter pen and the original Nitewriter batteries that were specially made for the pen.

Here is an article John Siple wrote that has some information on the telescope Tasco 19T When John and I first came across this telescope on Ebay back in about 2003, we both went nuts bidding against eachother as we knew it was rare.

Steve, could you post some photos of your pen and batteries. I was really hoping that they would be with my scope but oh well....what a cool accessory! I'll check the optics once the weather clears this weekend.

Tim, did you want the finder or one of the legs? :roflmao:
