Every February, one of Michigan's avg size towns host what is called Science Day at one of their elementary schools. Basically, they invite people from various science fields to host 25 minute sessions regarding their field. There are 5 of these sessions in the afternoon.
Yesterday was this year's event and I had a blast. Originally, I was going to bring my white light solar equipment and let them take a look and talk a little about sunspots, etc are. Since mother nature was not cooperative, I had my laptop/projector going with pics of Fox Park Observatory mixed with some astro-photos I have taken over the years. We just talked about what they could do/see at the public events and mostly let them ask questions about astronomy/the sky/telescopes and finished with a short hop through the solar system and what was unique about each planet (including "Dwarf Planet Pluto" as they called it).
Lot of great questions and almost all of them promised they would see me some time at a Fox Park event. Talked to about 125 kids total so it was very cool and rewarding day!
