This coming weekend , a few of my friends is planning a sidewalk event for this coming Mars Opposition.....
As usual, we are going to conduct it at an open area beside a public library. Whereby there will be a lot of human traffic passing by, so there is no need to make any special announcement. ( attachment photo is from the last sidewalk event done last year )
We will only be doing it for a few hours from 7.30pm till 11pm.....
I do not know all over world who else is also staging sidewalk events for this Mars Opposition period of time...
And would like to hear and share from all of you ..........

I hope yours is a success! Given the foot traffic you have received at previous events, I am confident it will be.

James, I don't have the opportunity myself this weekend, but several amateur astronomers I know in the western suburbs area of Chicago will be doing a Mars opposition event this weekend.
I hope yours is a success! Given the foot traffic you have received at previous events, I am confident it will be.
Unfortunately the whole of this week, the weather is cloudy , and tonight by 7pm, still no improvement , we decided to postpone to next weekend......even though I already prepared everything for loading up into my car....

BTW, this will be my ISTAR 8" scope with a new classic look, that I will use for this Mars Opposition sidewalk.....

As weekend is approaching.......And since the whole of last week, the weather is really bad in our region.....We have plan for this weekend sidewalk at our usual place again.....
And with this whole week of bad weather , except on Tuesday...., I hope the weather change this coming weekend...., and more people can enjoy the beautiful red planets, Mars, although is very very very small , when I have seen it on Tuesday night with my friend with his 4SE, at 300X..., I believe the crowd will enjoy it, just like the photo attachment taken last year, when I am there.

Sad to say for the past 3 weekends of attempt, we couldn't stage any sidewalk events at our usual place , simply due to the poor weather, with thick clouds over the whole sky..
Last weekend , we did not carry out our 4th attempt, coz we few members of us were following a group heading North, to another country side for the weekend star gazing event.....
We have more than 50 person, comprises mainly students from the local university and college, attending this once a month star gazing, which we can get away form the city lights, and do some DSO observing....
Following is the group photo taken from the star gazing country side......
As for the sidewalk event, we will try our 4th and 5th attempt on this coming weekend , as well next week Good Friday.....

Yesterday , a few of our members managed to stage this EARTH HOUR side walk event at the local library, which is our 4th attempts, for the Mars opposition ,,,,,
In fact the weather during the day is very cloudy, and we only confirmed the event around 6.30pm, when the sky is clear, after the clouds started to disperse during the late afternoon...
Again as usual, this local library open area, brings crowds that quickly formed the queue, once we setup our scopes,....
This time, we setup 3 scopes, and together with another few members, we enjoyed the night , together with the crowds, answering them questions and explaining to them what they are seeing...., (Moon, Mars and Saturn)
Following photo shows the crowds queue in front the local library....
