Another great thread Scott.
Your attention to detail and turn around time is second to none!

The light shield is perfect and still fits in the very nice case!
:woohoo:

Since my DEC locking rod is MIA and replacements are scarce, I decided to make my own. I picked up some pieces at the hardware the other day for the project. Here is the 3/16" x 36" plated rod, various knobs, 10-32 barrel nut and nylon washers. Not shown is the 10-24 T-nut and 1/4 nylon washers.

Also, the rod has already been cut to length (8 1/2" original length, thanks Keith) and threaded on both ends with a tap and die set from work. The long thread is 10-24 and the short thread is 10-32.

Also needed a little Loctite 271 High Strength thread locker. This needs to be put on both rod and knob ends.

Placed the assembly in the vise. Notice the soft aluminum channel in the vise jaws used to protect the rod. Tighten the whole assembly.

Now for the other end that will screw in to the DEC housing to lock it. This is the 10-24 long threaded end. Also installed a backing nut, nylon washer and SS flat washer. The original would have had only a collar here. This completes the handle.

Now for the DEC clamp. The holes in mine are very close to 1/4" but I had to open up the back hole slightly to make it 1/4". There are no threads on either side but the back side had a small hole for some type of pin, which was missing also. I guess to keep some sort of nut or threaded collar from rotating. I found a roll pin that fit it perfectly. Here it is installed.

I then modified a 10-24 T-nut and 1/4" nylon washer to accept the roll pin and keep it from rotating.

1/4" Washer installed. The outside diameter of the threaded portion of the 10-24 T-nut is also 1/4" and will pass through the 1/4" nylon washer and into the 1/4" hole of the DEC clamp. Just line up the roll pin hole.

Finally with the rod installed!

What do you think?? Not exactly original (the original looks more like a small screwdriver handle) but I like it. I think it captures the essence of the original and compliments the RA and DEC slo/mo controls well.

It works flawlessly, locks positively and with very little effort. All for less than $10.

It sure works alot better than this and a screwdriver in the dark!!

A great job of engineering.
