I just ordered a SkyScout. I love to show the sky to kids, my daughter is a teacher...
Question: Will the SkyScout work as a "push to" finder on a Celestron 8, or is there too much interference from the tube? Anyone using one this way?

It can be made to work with the help of a shield and a mount for it. Metal objects do interfere with it. I tried looking for both but I couldn't find anything.

You might try using mu metal sheeting around the tube. It's ductile and easily formed to curved/flat surfaces and absorbs/impedes magnetic flow.

Here on CN a special mount bracket has been offered that appears to be to be likely aluminum and mainly serves to hold the SkyScout well away from but aligned to the telescope. The special SkyScout Celestron refractor used aluminum not steel tube to avoid magnetic errors ,i believe.
