What happened to all those early LX5 models Meade sold???
I've got a great 10" workhorse which has given no problems for the last 15 years, but IS getting a bit dated against the LX200- GOTO crowd.

What do you do to upgrade? I can't trade in, and they say its only worth about A$ 1750. There must be many others out there with similar problems. Any comment.

Welcome to Cloudy Nights! You might try selling it locally to a private party - a dealer has to get the price low enough to cover resale.

Unfortunately, concerning the market value of an older scope, it is what it is. The price has to be low to attract buyers on a very tight budget, those unable to come up with the extra money for a contemporary scope.

Well, if you are happy with the optics, why not mount it on a GOTO GEM?

$1750? That's a pretty high value for a 15 year old scope. The 10" LX200 Classics generally go on AM for less than $2k.

That's 1750 Australian dollars.

:foreheadslap: So that's what the "A" means? I thought it was a fat finger slip. So that's $1311 in US. Better, but don't know about that price either. Here's a recent sale on AM.

Thanks for the warm welcome. The market for secondhand instruments is obviously not that big down under.
