My first attempt at any sort of Astro. This was back in 2017. I started trying for milky way shots a few months ago, and am now learning DSOs. Shooting with a Canon 77D, a Star Adventurer mount, and various lenses right now. No telescope (for imaging).

I think this is my first attempt at an astrophoto (besides handheld iPhone moon snaps through the eyepiece lol). At the very least it’s the oldest one on my phone! Canon Rebel through a Nexstar 8SE. It looks almost ok... when shown on a phone held several feet away wink.gif

My first photo.  Taken from my backyard last night.  Losmandy GM811g, Skywatcher Esprit 100ED, Canon 6D, NINA.  First night I could not get polar alignment.  Last night I think I got close. Getting good focus took a while with a Bahtinov mask.  Took 20 two minute exposures and three 5 minute exposures at ISO 800 and also took darks and biases (no flats). Stacked in DSS and processed in Lightroom to the best of my ability. I'm pretty happy but I know I have a ton to learn (why are my stars circles for instance?).

First one that I was able to get processed....previous data was unusable, had to learn how to set everything up first.

Mount: Heq5, a very old one.  no goto and has just the single large gears on the drive.

Scope: Meade ST80

Camera: Sony NEX-5R

30 second exposures

ISO 800

first attempt at deep sky, here's the ring! not real happy with it, but next time i'm out, i have a laundry list of things to do differently (iso setting, length of exposure, dark/flats, etc....) BUT, the ring is there!

Nice! Looks like someone blew a bubble and it's floating around in space.

First night sky photo taken with borrowed EOS100D and tripod.

I managed to convince myself that picture quality is due to lack of good tools rather than ability lol.gif  and so have just bought a tracking mount. No more excuses...

Thanks gkarris

I went for Ioptron Skyguider pro with Ipolar. Reason being is that it is light and portable, so I got it with thoughts of taking with me when i travel.

2nd day on my balcony with my first gear. Equipment used:

SW EQ5 with dual motor kit
SW 130PDS
Canon eos1100d stock

Sky heavy light polluted. In first day i have barelly set up the gear and when i wanted to start making photos, puffff, fog out of nowhere . Second day i was able to make some frames and final result is bellow.
P. S. i have quittet gigs with my band and sold my very first instrument(first love ) with which i have started, to buy entry level astronomy equipment. I have to admit that i have found my new love

This is my first post, photo was taken on a cold 4th of December night, just started astrophotography, I was taking a photo of Orion's belt and managed to capture Orion Nebular.  Tried to zoom, but could not get a good focus, that's the next lesson, when I can get a clear night again.

I am new to astronomy in general, and am just now starting to learn the night sky. A couple nights ago I was struggling to bring in M31 with an 8" newtonian on a manual GEM. I was fighting the full moon and the dew (my finder scope was completely unusable at one point), but at one point I found something that looked roughly like a bright smudge.

Looking at some of these pictures makes me think I did actually have M31 located (mostly just based on the shape), so this thread has been helpful to me.

My very first astrophoto was attempting to take a picture through an eyepiece using a cheap Android phone. For my second attempt I upgraded to one of those cheap adapters and a bluetooth button for remote shutter control (or something near enough to it).

The moon through a 25mm eyepiece:

The Orion nebula through a 10mm eyepiece using Android camera in manual mode (ISO3200, 1/3 sec.) :

Andromeda Galaxy:  30 subs @2minutes each, ZWO 071 mc pro @ 240 gain, Orion skyglow filter, Losmandy G11T, Explore Scientific ED80 Essential w/Moonlte focuser, PHD2 guiding, pixinsight processing.  Full moon was rising so not ideal conditions for imaging.  My sky is rated Bortle 5.  (p.s. never posted a pic here so don't know if this will come thru or not).

Season's Greetings smile.gif

M42, my first DSO photo, a natural favourite winter target of so many newbies, taken yesterday through Class 5 Bortle skies just North of Edmonton in central Alberta. A rather unexpected result making for a nice Christmas surprise.

Camera:  NIKON D5600 (un-modded)

single frame, 13 sec, 1000 ISO, no processing

Scope:  Celestron Super C8 (Byers drive) unguided

Prime Focus:  1260mm with FRFF

Can't wait to learn post-processing with DSS and Adobe(?)

Clear Skies

With practice you will get much better. It took me a few years to really get the hang of it, but keep trying, it will only get better. Make sure you read all the posts in the forums on how to take better pictures and ask a lot of questions and watch many videos on YouTube.
