A Criterion Dynascope Deluxe I restored had an interesting motor mounting that was similar. Used a hose clamp instead.

That's an awesome scope. It's got a Carle focuser I see on there?

I do need to restore it, but for now I cleaned and serviced everything.
I've never owned tube rotating rings and how nice they are!
Tonight is first light.
The focuser is a Meade that was added probably in the early 1980's when the telescope underwent a overhaul. During that overhaul the mount was repainted, the new focuser, the spider was moved 1-1/2 inches closer to the primary, mirrors recoated, and a new 50mm Towa finder.
I'm not sure what the original focuser looked like but the location for it is on the other side of the tube and has a 3 hole pattern so it probably was not a Carle originally, I wish it was.
I like the feel of the scope, it handles very nice during the daytime.

This certainly fits in the Miscellany thread. I have been wanting to use a red dot finder to use with the Meade 12.5", but I didn't want to drill into the tube. So I've found a temporary solution. I used a cable tie and 2 rubber bands to secure it onto the rings. It works great! If you've got that old Cave or similar and your looking for a way to find objects quicker, this is the way to go.

Celestron orange:
Half dozen full drops of International orange
A very small drop of brown
A full drop of yellow
The drops are dripped from the wide end of a flat toothpick.

I then use a toothpick to fill the scratch.

Nope. Its perfectly identical on the other side. I assume a missing threaded rod like the other two. The cylinder has no threads or other artifacts/flanges/extrusions.

It is coated like the Polaris mount it came with. Did I stump you?

That was always my favorite Donavan song. It was on the Sunshine Superman album. I bought it when it first came out (the final LP). Now my daughter has it.

Hopefully this is the right place to post some pictures of my 3" Unitron at a observing trip to the old Solar Observatory north of Oslo last weekend.

This is the 3" with different riggs with different sophistication

Last picture. This is taken from the top of the solar tower. The strange building to the right is the Satellite Station. From 1960 and around seven years til housed a Baker Nun camera used to photograph Soviet satellites. It was built by the US Air Force.
