Is a Peterson 'Eye Opener' basically the same as a 2" visual back?

It's supposed to let more light through. I have one but after a bit it was more convenient to go back to the standard style.

Yes, it's a special 2" visual back. It attaches to the large 3.25" threads on the rear cell of the telescope instead of onto the SCT thread adaptor where a standard visual back would go. As Jerry says, the intent is to open up the light path and prevent vignetting.
