Hi Folks,

I was trying to use Maxim DL 5 Pro to control exposure of my SBIG STF 8300M and I have some problem. I use "SBIG Universal" in the camera setup and under "connect to" I select USB and later it automatically change to "STF 8300M". The filter changes fine which makes me think the connection is all right. When I try to start exposure the error message "camera error (5)" jumps out. I didn't find any post online with this problem so I have to turn to you guys for help. Any suggestion or idea is appreciated.

Thanks,
Yizhou

In the second screenshot the "waiting for filter wheel" becomes "idle" once the filter is ready, but the error message still occurs.

Try updating your camera drivers and firmware.. I suspect that will resolve the problem. To do that you will first have to download the latest version of the driver checker, as the old one does not support the latest drivers

If you click on the setup filter tab, what settings are in there. I had this same problem and IIRC it was because I actually selected a FW from the pull down menu instead of 'SBIG Universal'.

Hi Steve,

I was selecting "SBIG universal" and using the model "standard". My FW is FW8 for 8300 but it's not in the options. Is that correct?

I use Maxim DL5 the CFW-8 is an option in mine. I agree that you need to update your version of driver checker it isn't loading the CFW-8 driver.

Clear skies,
Keith

Keith,

I just ran the driverchecker and all my drivers are current and no need to be updated. The fw8-8300 is directly connected to the ccd, so do I need the driver of the filter wheel? If yes, is it included in the driverchecker downloading or I have to get it somewhere else?

I just try to use CFW-8 option but I cannot change filter this time. The same error message still occurs. When using "standard" I can change filters but can't expose.

Yes, that is how my filter setup page looks exactly, not taking into consideration my filter numbers.

Sorry I can't help beyond that.

Yizhou,

Looking at the list of SBIG Error codes, a value of +5 is a "Bad Camera Command", -5 is a filter wheel issue. Have a look at this chart here:

http://www.cyanogen....Error_Codes.htm

You mentioned checking the drivers using the Driver Checker. I believe that is a tool which only validates your ASCOM configuration (there may be aSBIG tool that I am not familiar with so I could be wrong here).

Looking at your first screen shot, I can see that the SBIG universal driver is from 2010. I would check and see if you can update MaximDL. Do that from the Help Menu

Did you download the latest version of the driver checker before checking your drivers? It makes a difference.

Hilmi, I just downloaded the driverchecker from sbig website and it's the same result, all drivers are current and no need of update.

What's your version of SBIG Universal driver in Maxim DL? V5.09 or later?

Thanks,
Yizhou

The checker will say they are current even when they are not. You have to hit the download button.

Yes I hit download first, let it connect to the internet and finish downloading, then hit update, and it says all drivers are current and no need of updating or something like that.

Actually, I just remembered that I had a similar problem a few days ago. I changed the filter wheel to FW10 I think and it worked.

It was the old SBIG Universal I'll bet :-)
