Lets see. First I need a bigger backyard. Next, I'll need to put in a foundation for the pier. Then, build the building and dome to house it. Then....

My wife decidedly does not like it :bawling:.

At first I thought the pic showing the polar axis shaft was some sort of fork mounted 5" - 6" scope :foreheadslap:

The likely price range is mentioned on the Astronomics site as follows.

"Although no firm price has been announced, the new scope is expected to be priced between $30,000 to $50,000 or the price of a nicely equipped 5 series BMW. Further details will be posted here as they become available."

Looks like I'll have to stick with my skateboard !

Here's the REAL scoop...

The telescope itself will actually cost only $1000.

The other $29,000-$49,000 will cover:

1) the cost of the crane needed to hoist a 20" tube assembly on to a German mount!, or

2) temporary living expenses for the 3 friends you will need to put the tube on the mount, or

3) a portion of your medical bills should you attempt to assemble it yourself!!!

Don

P.S. If you actually CAN assemble it yourself, you get to run for governor of California.

Is it Fastar capable?

I don't think so. The primary is an elipsoidal mirror so it has a lot of spherical aberration. Normally this is corrected by the secondary mirror, and if you remove the secondary you don't get a useable image. (Plese someone correct me if I'm wrong...)
