I need to know nothing more as a person to totally love your father. You are a lucky man and so will be any children you have. Their father will have had an excellent example to guide him.

Thank you, Bill, it was very kind of you to say that.

Michael, are your altitude bearings made from old phenolic ashtrays?

Yep....old 5" restaurant-style ashtrays! They work surprisingly well!

Thank you Allan. That's a great mod. Mods like yours is what makes these scopes so great. They even keep us occupied on cloudy nights!

I am sure Mr. Dobson would be proud.

On the 6 and the 16 dobs, the altitude bearings ride on Velcro batting with a bit paraffin to break the stiction. On the 10, the side bearings and the cradle are both Corian, again with paraffin to break the stiction. It was a bit of a challenge to get the side bearings to match the cradles, but it can be done with trial and error. Dave

16"

Demetry, The year you put into making that very high functioning 16" is true homage to John Dobson. You have shown many of your friends and others the wonders of the night sky with that magnificent telescope. The work was worth the effort and John Dobson would be proud that you built it to share with others. Bob

Actually the description on my Astrocrumb web page is about 6 years old.
Sorry! Here is a brief description of some of my mods. I'm attaching some picts for detail:
UTA:
Power distribution bar(the borg figure actually supplies the SkiFi power)
ServoCat handpad is velcro'd to drive in correct direction of buttons
The focuser is shimmed out 2.5" as I converted to an f4.3 with a larger
secondary. I could shorten the scope by doing this.
iPad running Skysafari Pro driving the scope
9 HOLE FilterSide(I make the Astrocrumb Slides)
Lots of connections and lights for convenience
I'll post a second reply for the rocker box

RockerBox:
ServoCat 1st Gen fit only on the outside.
Speaker-looking mount on SC is the reel for the hand pad cord
volt/Amp meeters
Markless counterweight system
Big power switch for large cooling fan inside
Thermometer for mirror/ambient temps
Quick disconnects for wheelbarrow handles
2 fans mounted for front surface mirror cooling
Eyebolts for locking rocker box in place
Lots of connections and lights for convenience

BTW, I had replaced the OMI f4.5" x 2" thick mirror with a Zambuto f4.3" x 1.6" mirror a few years ago.

Everytime i see your scope Roger I just can't help but smile and laugh. I love it! It just kills me! :)

Please telling me you'll be bringing it to NEAF this year!

Wait a second! You left off the coffee cup warmer!

Oh yeah!
The most important part, COFFEE!!
I'm not setting up a booth this year, but might be helping Howie Glatter.
So unless he wants a demo-scope(he uses his 18" Ob) I probably won't bring it.
