Received the eyepieces from Australia last week. I have never seen these orthos with a Unitron brand on them before. I recall Xavier posting some similar Polarex ones a while back. A couple of them were on ebay, but turned out he had a couple more that wasn't yet placed. Very sweet. :jump:

Along with the orthos he had a 25mm Kellner. Never saw one of those before either. :smirk: It was thought that maybe these eyepieces were microscope eyepieces, But they are definitely .965 telescope eyepieces.

Yes they are. And glass looks great as well. I do need a chance to try them out. I've found there is quite a variety of 25mm Unitron eyepieces. As shown in this photo. The H25 mm is from my 1955 128. The straight letter R25 mm from my 1960 3". The slant letter R25 mm from my 70"s 128. The K25 mm from this purchase. And a HM25 mm I assume to be a very late model offering. Any confirmations of vintage of the last two are certainly appreciated.

That's right, Gerald.
I have Polarex or25 and 18mm but never seen the or12,5 and 9mm in Polarex brand.
That's really unique.

Congrats Gerald. I was watching these too and all the postings around them when they were up. Definitely a score and adding to the CN Unitron knowledgebase at the same time:-) Thx. Chris

Awesome find Gerald. You must have persuaded that ebay seller with the righ amount. I have some of those somewhere. Remember the last time Xavier posted some pics I looked through the eyepiece vault and found some that were unusual like those. It is strange they were not in the Unitron catalog. However, I thought someone said they did have a catalog with different eyepieces we normally do not see?

Thanks ladies and gentlemen. I really enjoy expanding my Unitron habit, I mean collection.
Hope you guys enjoy sharing it with me. Amazing how some of this stuff has not been uncovered for forty years.
The seller was eager to take a sure deal. I had a feeling these would go crazy on feebay. I actually backed off of the other ortho and the konig. Had to keep costs manageable.

What kind of addiction has limits. Seems to me you need a more regular fix to get the proper hooks in

My 1996 Unitron price list has these eyepieces in stock:

KE25mm - $55.00
OR18mm - $77.00
OR12.5mm - $82.00
OR9mm - $63.00

It doesn't show the quantity available; but, I was told that they had at least one of each item in the info package I received.

I didn't know until I got the list that Unitron made Plossl eyepieces.

Wow, Thanks Bob. Maybe these orthos were very late vintage. If you would double check and make sure if your lists are for .965 or 1 1/4" eyepieces.
Thanks again.

The first 4 must be .965, because the others have OD's:

KE60mm 1.25 $97
KE40mm 1.25 $59
MX40mm 1.25 $88
OR50mm 2.00 $127
PL55mm 2.00 $132

There are more, all sorted by part numbers, which makes it appear random at first. 20 eyepieces + 4 eyepiece adapters in all.

"Maybe these orthos were very late vintage."

I don't know... when I spoke with Unitron, I got the impression that they didn't toss stuff - things could sit on the shelves for YEARS.

Late vintage
Interesting use of words. Is that like almost vintage, but not for a few years

 Hey Gerald, I sold some of these to a guy in Australia a while back. all 1 1/4" size and bought from brian grider. There was a thread on eyepieces or classic scopes a few years back showing the ones he had and I had. cant remember when we posted tho. john :foreheadslap:

The eyepieces section from a 09/76 Unitron price list I have shows the following:
  • 16627 40mm Monochro $21.00
  • 16628 40mm Monochro with crossline $24.75
  • 16629 25mm Ramsden $13.75
  • 16630 18mm Kellner $13.75
  • 16631 12.5 Kellner $13.75
  • 16632 9mm Achromatized Symmetrical $16.25
  • 16633 9mm Achr. Sym. with crossline $20.75
  • 16634 7mm Achromatized Symmetrical $16.25
  • 16635 6mm Orthoscopic $21.00
  • 16636 5mm Orthoscopic $21.00
  • 16637 4mm Orthoscopic $21.00
  • 16638 60mm Kellner $49.50
No size is mentioned but I assume the above are all 0.965" as the list also shows part no. 16639 Plastic adapter bushing for 1 1/4" O.D. at $1.00

Edit: reading the accompanying Unitron brochure I see that the 40mm eyepiece is 1 1/4" and the 60mm is 58mm (a touch over 2 1/4") and can only be used in the Super Rack & Pinion focuser (or equivalent). All other eyepieces are 0.965".

Thanks James for the listing. That is the line up that is familiar from the late 50s and up. These orthos in .965 sure are a rarity.
I need one of those 40mm w/ crosslines.

The 40mm is a 1.25" eyepiece and the 60mm is larger and is threaded. The others are .965".

Also have to qualify that later models were available in 1.25". Those were volcano top designs.
