The TOA got homesick and came back to me:

I have mixed feelings for you, Matt! Sad for you that the TMB is off your hands, but happy for you (and a bit envious) that you have a TOA. Enjoy!

That is an interesting altitude/azimuth adjustment for AZ-EQ6, Matt ! Can you please share more details ?

The TMB went back to my mate Chris, he had bought it new while living in UK and brought it to Oz. He had seller's remorse 1 second after my payment so I decided he could have it back. This TOA130NFB was mine previously and had hardly been used by another mate who offered it back to me at a very fair price...

The base actually does away with any adjustment and moves the rotation axis of the mount directly over the centre of the tripod as well as raising the mount so the scopes clear the legs.....

I only ever use AltAz mode, making the system ideal for my outreach work.

The system is incredibly steady now. As pictured the setup weighs exactly 60Kg.  The tripod can hold 450Kg !!!

I am happy to hear that you got your TOA back.  I have suffered seller's remorse on more than one occasion and understand how Chris felt.

Even though the scope was too heavy for me - and I was facing yet another spinal fusion - I still had a lot of seller's remorse when I let my TOA 130 go.  It's still the best 5-inch scope I ever owned or even looked through.  I just wish I was younger and healthier so I could still enjoy it.  What a view!  sigh2.gif

Cheers,

Ron

There's a Tak Teegul 100 for sale on Astromart and CN Classifieds, for anybody who wants to add that strange bird to his or her collection.

As for me, I'm about Takked out for the moment, but I confess it was tempting to have the only Teegul on my block--and likely in my entire State!

Just 1 more TOA to buy and you're back to binoscoping.

That thought has crossed my mind but I would need to turn the mount into a TTS Panther clone by placing the scopes on a bar linked to both the current clamp and the counterweight bar and add some weights on arms like the TTS....  Hmmmm cool.gif

Only off the shelf solution for tripod upgrade for the AZEQ6 seems to be the Planet.

I use a Planet for my AZ/EQ-G.. It's a very robust tripod that looks very classy.

That black color Atlas suits that mount better.  My white and green AZEQ6.....not so nice.

Yes I know I am nitpicking. But at least the mount would match and future Takahashi's haha

An EQ6 tripod, which can be bought off the shelf, should be strong enough.

Amazing how much of a telescope they were able to squeeze in that Sky 90 package! The condition is awesome.

With the arrival of the customized 36mm adaptor ring, my imaging train is finally completed.

Sky has been clear since Monday, wind is also below 5mph. Tonight is the night!

What is the red handle that you are using here with the prima Luce rings?

Assembled & Tested:

Tak SC EQ Restore S22 - Filo Tripod Assembled (BEFORE).jpg Tak SC EQ Restore S26 - Filo Tripod Assembled (BEFORE).jpg

Both the FC-50 & Sky Cancer EQ are circa 1985, while the Filotecnica surveyor tripod is about 20 years older.  It saw a lot of use, so this is a BEFORE restore.  Rig weighs 32 lbs, but seems lighter.  Silver column is textured for a good grip, and grabbing the top of a leg with the other hand helps with balance.

This dinky Sky Cancer EQ reminds me of the first Daiwa fishing reel I saw 4+ decades ago - less than half the size of a Shakespeare or Zebco but pure precision in comparison.  Before getting it, I was dead-set on gifting myself a top-tier 4" APO this year, but now I'm thinking about a circa 1985 FC / FCT - 76 instead.  Owners rave about these, and I'm pretty sure this mount could carry one for my 95% visual observing.

William Optics 243mm Saddle Handle Bar. It's length is a tiny bit longer than the 240mm separation between tube rings, but servers the purpose well.

The Sky90 came as a partial-change deal as great set including the FT-microfocuser, camera-rotator and an unused Tak reducer/flattener. Only part missing here was the Extender Q - but fortuitous I had one sitting on the shelfs (long planned to sell...) that now get´s new work to do... :)

It needed some cleaning and tuning but now looks nice and performes really great. I was surprised by the crystal clear and sharp views it shows and like it a lot because it´s so very compact (and fluorite... and a Tak... of course ;) )

Here are my two 4” Taks in action this past Sunday. Trying to capture images of the ISS lunar transit.

How did it go?

Sure is sweet looking congrats

Brought out the new to me 1992 FC-76    and its bigger brother the 1989 FC-100

The FC-100 rides nicely on the EM-10. I got the bigger EM 200 legs so at times the FS-128 can share the EM -10. Now I have an old AP 600 mount for that.....

Pics show the FC-100 riding tall on the EM-10   and the FC-76 on the Unistar on a somewhat rare Meade tripod....
