Just bought SONY's  mirrorless DSLR A7

and I cannot wait to try it for astro Imaging

but I found its really a pain to use it with "remote camera control" on PC

you need to press the button to start exposure and release to finish it under bulb mode

as a human being, Its not possible to control it in this way under long exposure mode

so we wrote this small tool to do this job

its very simple to use, it will press and release the shoot button of "remote camera control" for you

hope you like this tool

download from here:

http://www.zwoptical...otectrltool.zip

please install VS2008 SP1 redistributable package if you have problem to run it

http://www.microsoft...ls.aspx?id=5582

Hi Sam,

Thank you for creating this useful tool.

I tried out the English version and I found a couple of problems.

- When the exposure time goes above 100sec, the exposure text is cut off. It looks like the text field is long enough only for 2 digits.

- When I add a delay, it looks like the delay is actually added to the exposure time. I confirmed this with the stopwatch and the exposure time in the EXIF confirms this. i.e. I tried with 2 sec delay and 120sec exposures and the exposure ended up with 122 sec.

I hope Sony updates their remote control API soon so that Apps can add bulb modes.

I think astrophotography tool is going to add support for the sony a7s.
I read it on the jtw astronomy facebook page a while back.

Oh that's great news.

I guess Ivo is reverse engineering the camera protocol because Sony's API doesn't support bulb mode (also I don't see native SDK for windows).

It looks like it is always off by 2 sec for 120 sec exposures regardless of the delay setting.

Isn't there an official Sony tool?

http://support.d-ima...Win/rcc/us.html

According to this site v3.3 added support for the A7S

http://briansmith.co...ony-a7-a7r-a7s/

Hmmm I see the issue ... hope APT will support this camera ...

/Yves

Wenjha,

I tried your small tool and it seems to work.  Thank you.  I have a couple questions:  What does the tool do to the camera when running? in other words I want to confirm that even if the camera control is running and the exposure is set diferently from Bulb mode, your tool will automatically set the camera to Bulb.  Is that correct? or do I have to set the camera control to Bulb before using the  tool.

When I tried, it seems to set the camera to Bulb mode, but I want to confirm that.

Thanks.

Alvaro

This did not work for me on Windows 10 Pro.  I am using the new Sony Edit/View/Remote program.  I have also installed the Microsoft runtime library.  Any suggestions?  The Sony app works fine.  Using an A7RII

Thanks

A tool written to work with Sony RemoteCameraControl is unlikely to be compatible with Sony ImagingEdge without further code development work.  It's probably worth asking Sam or FeloPaul if they plan to update it.

In the meantime, you might find my app works:

https://www.cloudyni...series-cameras/

The version compatible with ImagingEdge is in post #16
