A pair of TPL 50mm !?! Which 2" binoviewer are these going in? smile.gif

TPL 50mm is not for binoviewers, but maybie for some future binoscope with 2" eyepieces support like APM 150mm SD APO.....

2" binoviewers are not good optically in my experience, otherwise I would building them, and own.

I use the 1.25" eyepieces in my 152mm f/12.5 MCT and 152mm f/6.7 refractor.

The Siebert 2" 32mm and 36mm Observatory series I use with the Siebert 2" Binoviewer with my 10" SCT , and a 20" SCT which is not mine.

Here are some of my favourite eyepieces for solar and lunar binoviewing. Leica HC Plan S, Zeiss W-Pl 25mm, Tak Abbé 18mm, TPL 12.5mm, TOE 4mm. Just noticed that the coatings on the two Tak TOE 4mms are different colours - green and purple.

Just finished my custom 3D printed binoviewer-friendly eye guards for the DeLites. So, so, soooo comfortable to look through now. Love how they turned out. Just missing that one Baader winged eye guard for the 7mm that I was shorted on in a recent order.

Amazing. I wonder if this could give TeleVue some ideas for a Type 2 Delite? Don’t mess with the optics - just redesign the bodies for easier binoviewing.

I think there's certainly room for improvement in Tele Vue's design. My design has fixed eye relief - I custom tailored it for me, but that wouldn't fly if being sold to a broader audience.

But I bet with some minor optimizations they could slim the stock design down by 1.5-2mm, giving 3-4mm of extra space between the eyepieces when binoviewing. Might even be able to add a small conical taper at the top without changing the ability to be lowered down to be compatible with glasses. A small conical taper would greatly aid in binoviewing comfort.

However, I'm betting that would make them incompatible with Dioptrx, and Tele Vue probably isn't willing to compromise on that and probably don't want to maintain inventories of two different sizes of Dioptrx.

I only discovered that my 20mm SWAN's and smaller EP's actually focus in my longer refractors this year. I need the 2x WO Barlow/glass path corrector though.

uiCjp2ql.jpg

As a consequence I've had some pretty decent refractor stereo planetary/lunar sessions this year (plus occasional DSO's).

I'd almost mothballed the William Optics BV.

bngMvV7l.jpg

I tend to use my cat's just for lunar/planetary.The refractors are so much more versatile.

I've been working on this for a while now and I'm only 1 20mm from having the complete set. I also have my 2" versions in this family portrait.

Thanks Denis, if I only had a binoviewer I'd be set.

For the Celestron BV/102 SkyMax I only really need these pairs for lunar observing.

The Omnis now have chromed-brass barrels. They replaced my 15mm GSO SuperViews, predominantly as they fit in this small case!

I only use oculars converted from old pairs of binoculars for bino-viewing.

Pair on the left are Russian (Soviet union era). Very nice low power views but they will not handle

a Barlow lens for higher power.

The middle ones, were a real surprise. The binocular was a 1970s Japanese made  pair

that was bought for a couple of pounds. These eyepieces have been really quite superb for high

power planetary viewing.  Had excellent views of Jupiter and Mars with these.

The right-hand set are Pentax, very sharp and have given nice planetary and lunar views.

I prefer LE 30 over TV Plossl 32 for sure.  In fact, I don't think I used TV Plossl in binoviewer for years.

It is hard to say which one is sharper but I am sure I can stay concentrated in binoviewing much easier/longer with LE 30 than TV PL 32.

By the way, when I use LE 30, I tend to use high power Barlow lens in front of diagonal, which extends eye relief.  I think native LE 30 eye relief is 18mm, TV PL 32 eye relief is 22mm.  Too long eye relief may be contributing to eye positioning issue with TV PL 32.

Tammy

I have the TV 32s.

what helped immensely with the eye relief was the TV Eyeguard Extender.

The 32s are frequently used with the Mewlon.
