It looks like the original forum is still active, and meanwhile they have several cameras using different chips (also CMOS). Here is the link

 

I have built a cam86 using a D70 sensor, it works fine but I think it is a bit too difficult to operate reliably (cooling in particular).

Not sure, at first glance this appears it might use the same sensor as a Nikon D40/D50/D70/D70s but have not been able to confirm via Google yet.  Number of pixels and size seem to be the same so would not be surprised if they are indeed the same.   HOWEVER, https://www.cloudyni...mera/?p=6829922 implies that the D100 is a different chip.
