top notch!

Bob

No way, it's perfect!

BQ

Thanks gents. It barely fit the sensor. It's shown in the actual FOV of the chip. I had to bump it by hand every 10 seconds or so to keep it away from the edge. It was too cloudy to accurately polar align, so it was drifting fast, and the fit was so tight I could not get SharpCap's Feature Tracking to calibrate. Plus there were lots of clouds moving fast, so when I saw an opportunity, I turned off the targeting computer and used the Force instead.

I was too tired to set up my 6" Orion Dob on Tuesday morning, so I took my grab-and-go 80mm Orion ShortTube 80 achromatic refractor outside instead and took this afocal iPhone photo using an 8-24mm Tele Vue Click Stop Zoom eyepiece.

I neglected to post this hand-held afocal shot of the 99%-illuminated Moon that I took using my iPhone, a 25mm Orion Plössl, and a 6” Orion SkyQuest XT6 Dob on June 21st.

Here's a hand-held afocal iPhone photo that I took on Saturday night using my 6" Orion SkyQuest XT6 Dob.  The Lunar V and Lunar X became visible during the morning but were still prominent.

Wednesday night's waxing gibbous moon as captured with a Nikon Z8 and a NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR lens. This is a single frame capture since at this image scale I don't think stacking helps that much. The moon appears somewhat warm in color because of its low altitude at this phase and time of year (i.e. during summer the full moon will appear lowest in the sky and during winter it will be at its highest). Image processing with Photoshop 2024 and there are additional capture details in the captions.

Here is Thursday night's waxing gibbous moon as captured with a single frame using a Nikon Z8 and a NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR lens. This time I tweaked the color balance to remove some of the warmth that is normally added when the moon is so low in the sky. The seeing conditions were pretty bad given the moon's modest altitude and if you look along the right limb of the moon you can see some of the fine-scale distortions that this caused (particularly along the upper right limb). Image processing with Photoshop 2024 and there are additional capture details in the captions.

The shadowed crater with the central peak that appears on the moon's upper left (north west) terminator is Pythagoras.

Got another mosaic of the moon on 7-17.  Didn't get around to processing it until today.  Missed a tiny spot but I just put a little gray box over it so its not that noticeable unless you reallyyyyy look for it.

Another single frame capture with a Nikon Z8. This was taken Friday night with the moon higher in the sky since I could wait longer given that there were no clouds tonight (as yet). The seeing was definitely better than on Wednesday and Thursday. Plus, I carried the camera and photo tripod down to a location where I could shoot over some grass rather than the concrete, asphalt, and rooftops that I have around my home.

Full capture details are in the captions. Image processing with Photoshop 2024. Still one more day until the full moon (on Sunday morning PDT).

This turned out rather nicely; iPhone 12 Pro to the 20mm eyepiece of my 3.5 at 70x magnification. I don’t usually shoot almost-full moons, but was prepping for an upcoming ISS transit.

A shot of Thursday night's crescent moon taken using a single frame from a Nikon Z8 and a NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR zoom lens (600mm, f/8, 1/60s, ISO200). Image processing with Photoshop 2024.

I think a stack using AutoStakkert! should produce a better result and I have a few hundred images taken in a burst capture that still need to be processed.
