Looks like there is a way to use Android devices to capture video astronomy pics.

This should work with many Android devices 4.0 or higher.

Must have specific type of Easycap and verified Android device to do this.

This Android software displays USB Easycap pics.

This shows how to do screen capture on any Android 4.0 device.

Thanks Charles!

Be forewarned that app (for now) only supports utv007 and stk1160 based USB-video dongles.

Easycap, Ezcap, etc. what a mess.  See this thread

http://www.cloudynig...rabber-problem/

BTW,

stk1160's USB ID is 05e1:0408

quote (see post #11)

I popped open the dongle's cover and found mine (USB id --> 05e1:0408) using a cloned 7113 front-end and STK1160 backend, so I tried driver (1b) from the above link and its video works!

UTV007's USB ID is 1b71:3002

(see post #20)

Clear Skies!

Hello Charles,

yes i tried the easycap viewer app, it does not work with all device s: for example,  it does work with my smartphone xiaomi m2s, but it does not work with my acer a500.

About the way to record the screen, there is also something better than take screenshots:

take a look to the MOBIZEN application in the play store:

this appl allows to record in an mp4 file all what you view in the device screen,

setting also recording frame rate etc...

Charles,

That is very interesting. I have ordered the cable, will be at my door by tomorrow.  Since I have three different kind of EZCAPs at least one would fit for the purpose.

Charles,

I've got the OTG cable and tried. It didn't work with SMI chip set.  I will try different EZCAP dongles tonight.

Charles,

I tried with a dongle which driver is 'OEM device' and it works.  I have one more dongle to try.

Thanks for the posting.

Saw a free Android app that maybe able to work with EZcap to display and take snapshots.

CameraFi on GooglePlay

https://play.google.....camerafi&hl=en

It requires EZcap that is uvc capable (driverless) , which many are. Perhaps someone could test it out?
