I received my new Manfrotto 055B tripod and 501 head today.

I want to say THANK YOU to Erik Lin and others for inspiration and advice.

This is the best accessory I've ever bought.

Rock -solid - silky smooth - any angle catered for -- what more could anyone ask for ?

I strongly advise anyone under 6 feet 4 ins. looking for a set -up for binoculars up to 13 lbs to get this one.

Just been out viewing Jupiter , Orion , M45 and the Zenith
with my 15 x 70s attached --no problems whatsoever.

Thanks again guys.

Regards -- one VERY happy chappy -- Kenny.

Congratulations, Kevin!

I just ordered the 501 myself. Looks like a great one. My problem is that I don’t have a bino right now, so I'll probably break it while I’m waiting for the new Obies to arrive!

Nice Kenny.

Nothing like quality mounts to go with quality optics.

I have the 222 ball head for use on a monopod and I love it.
Link to 222 and Manfrotto's site.

I have been throughly enjoying my 3221WN/501 system. As you said, "silky smooth". It has been a near perfect match for my obies. Unfortunately, the cloud cover in the New England area has been going on for days now, but I am happy that you're able to get out. Enjoy!
