After doing an inventory last week and finding that I have more mounts than telescopes, I realized something had to give. I’ve tripped over this dinosaur for the last time. I got this mount for bigger scopes that I no longer have and my 6” F4.5 Newtonian (shown in the picture) can ride fine on my Edmund Pedistal GEM or my new dual drive Meade LX70. Looking cool wasn’t a good enough reason for me to keep it. That being said, I delivered the old Meade 856 mount on its mini-pier and heavy wooden tripod, along with 25 pounds of counterweights to the Cincinnati Observatory Friday. I donated it and it will be used in their outreach programs with a larger old Newtonian. It’s nice to have more room in my cramped telescope workshop and storeroom. I tripped over one of the legs and fell backward last summer sustaining a rather nasty bruise on my back and hip last summer. No more!

All gone but #1. Note that the screws are ~1.5” long as is the flat piece.

I am doing some Spring cleaning and came across some Edmund NOS that I do not need. Just throw me $5 for shipping. The first are a pair of Edmund square secondary mirrors. I believe these are extras from their Super Space Conquers. Their coatings are faded, but they appear in great cosmetic shape otherwise. I also have a pair of Edmund DC motors. Both were tested and work. I can ship all together or ship the pair of mirrors to one person and the motors to another. PM me to claim. I will do my best to get back to you ASAP.

Unitron Dewshield for 3” refractor. It was originally on a model 140 or 142. No dents, dings, or deep scratches. It’s been spray painted with Rustoleum Satin Black.

No I didn’t part out the scope, I came by the part.

Taker pays shipping and PayPal on shipping. It will go USPS ground. CONUS only!

I hope it fits for whomever got it.  My very early 75mm has the cell with no print on the rim, and the dew shield is much thicker than later models and I believe the threads were different. Maybe the I.D. was the same and the O.D. was bigger, so the threads may have been the same. I recall that some later caps wouldn't fit on the bigger outside diameter.

There are no threads, it’s a slip on. If it’s slightly too big to slip over the outside of the objective cell it can be furred out with a little felt. I also included a black plastic dust cap that fits it perfectly.

I have to say that the last couple of things that I have given away free to CN members here through this thread, I have not received a ‘thank you’ on receipt or even a notification of receipt. Nope, not so mush as “kiss my a#$”! Come on people, I realize that we are living in an age where we have ceased with most social graces and basic manners, but geeze! We are of an age where we were taught better! Even tho bad behavior is modeled for us on an almost daily basis by those in media and politics, we can be better than that. If we are going to keep the spirit of this thread up, lets do it in the spirit of Emily Post. That doesn’t mean a stamped and mailed, formal thank you card, a kindly PM would suffice.

Nouf said!

And if this doesn’t pertain to you, then give yourself a pat on the back from me! love.gif

Terra, Not quite a giveaway item here on CN,  but related to manners. I just had a pleasant experience with a query to Celestron about finding a end dust cap for my old 130 GT telescope. I had lost mine over the years and let them know the situation and I got several notes from them that they were looking in their warehouse for it and they were very prompt with their communications to me over the past few days. My expectation was they'd give me a price and I'd call and pay for it over the phone.

Bottom line is that they just notified me they are sending the dust cap to me for FREE which completely took me by surprise. I sent a very profuse thank you to them and I agree with you Terra, there isn't enough thanks that goes on for these sorts of generous things that happen. Manners do matter.

So, this is my public Thank You to Celestron's staff for a very kind gesture to a retired aerospace guy who is on a pension and has to watch my budget... Celestron went above and beyond. I'm deeply appreciative to Celestron for this and I'll definitely remember it when I spend my $$$ on accessories in the future.

Jon

I think a lot of folks never actually give stuff away, or sell it cheap, and thus, never deal with the whole shipping thing.

For me, to sell - or give away - something here on CN involves probably an hour of my time - posting the ad, dealing with responses, finding or making a box, getting packing, printing a label, putting it all together, driving to the village to the post office and back here,....and half the time covering the postage costs, too.....

Now, I'll admit that sometimes it takes me a day or three to get through all the steps, and I do understand that some folks want order confirmation within 15 minutes, and shipping conformation within two hours, and that they're going to be too pouty to acknowledge the package when it arrives by not-next-day delivery..... but.... a simple 'it arrived' isn't so hard to type......

PS.... Tom, I have met you in person.... you worry too much!  I cannot for a moment think you would forget to thank someone for a good deed done!
