First Batch:

attachicon.gif SL2019 P01.jpg

This was stuff up in the man cave closet.

Just thanking JW for the finder. It fits perfectly in the "custom" Edmund 4001 that I picked up locally for $59 -- much better than the Orion 6x30 that came with it, which barely reached between both rings. This 12 x 40 is from a Sears. Although there was fungus damage that had taken off most of the coatings, once the objective was cleaned up and the front element flipped, it gives very nice views. Just by hand-holding, it showed nice sharp views of the Pleiades, M31, double cluster, and it split Alberio.

Now, I question my down-sizing...

** UPDATE for my recipients:  I brought home a dozen boxes, and I'll be a packing maniac (or, a maniac packing) this weekend to ship out -- between storms! -- this coming week.  **

More FREE Stuff

I found this set of 3 tubular metal Sears 6344 tripod legs "hiding" in a corner:

Sears 6336 on 6344 Mount S99.jpg

I probably have the accessory tray squirreled-away.  All packed-up, these are pretty heavy, so the shipping weight & $$ is TBD.

I'm gonna TRY to get the last few Free Stuff items packed this weekend, and shipped out next week before the Holiday Insanity starts, and the USA practically shuts down...

[Wish I could leave this post open longer than the default 24 hours:  Digging through my shed is like at an archaeological site -- a few gems are revealed -- layer by layer.]

I won't go to the post office for the two weeks before Christmas.  It's insane.  UPS and FedEx are much less crowded during the holiday shipping season.

I'm waiting for you to give away the shed doors, JW.    I want those.  ;)

NEVER!  I stained & clear-coated those doors with Olympic going on 12 years ago, and it's held up well -- especially as they face Due South, at The Swamp, with our merciless tropical Sun + high humidity + blazing heat.  But yeah, I'm gonna have to redo them in 2020 -- Before Summer!!

I have a few eyepieces, etc. that aren't seeing much use and aren't likely to in the foreseeable future. Perhaps they'd be better off with you?

On offer for shipping if you can spring for it are unbranded 40mm and 6.3mm plossl eyepieces, a 2x short barlow lens, and a moon filter.

Good Grief!  Old Age & 24/7 medications strike again...

If you asked for the Cheap China USB Camera please shoot me a PM -- I lost your first message!

Mystery Solved.

Thanks to All Y'all who helped clean out my shed by finding uses for all that stuff (Debbie appreciates it, too!).  I've found uses for the few things unclaimed:  That Celestron / Vixen 5x24 black finder is going on my 5" F5 triplet.  The finder has a cemented & coated doublet, no field stops, & a wide field, and the Triple Nickel only needs an area aimer.  The black threaded handle... is also used on some Takahashi & Vixen mounts.  Maybe I should put it on eBay as a "rare Takahashi mount accessory" -- I could probably get a couple hundred bucks for it.  I may adapt it to my Custom 80 AZ mount -- it'll make sweeping faster & easier.

Watch This Thread -- I'll be doing more clearing out after the Holidays.

Big thank you to Bomber Bob for the RV-6 focuser. I also wanted to thank zleonis for the reply. I know you probably get a lot of takers when offering items here, but I am very grateful for the opportunity to help friends and family and do outreach.

Hey folks,

I recently sold an AVX mount and reasonably, the buyer wanted it shipped in original packaging. This leaves me with the case I used to store it in for travel/outreach. I believe (though I'm not sure) that it probably originally came from a C8. The person I bought it from on Craigslist was using it in his garage for tool storage. I no longer need it, and it would be pretty expensive to ship by itself. It's in relatively poor condition, the clasps are getting pretty rusty, and there were a few holes drilled into it that I covered with electrical tape. I used to keep my mount + 2x 11lb counterweights and anti-vibration pads in it, and trusted it through some long treks, and it's never let me down. Figured I'd offer it up over here first and if nobody was interested I'll put it on the regular classifieds. I can travel a little ways around Pittsburgh to meet for a local pickup, or if it's worth it to you, I can try to find something to ship it in and pass along the cost.

Vintage Jaegers 1” Shaft GEM in very good condition. This was going to be a project that I have finally decided against doing. Motions are quite smooth. Little to no real rust. This is an easy restoration if you can secure or make a 3” pier. Original bakelite lock knobs are in excellent shape. The whole mount is in way better shape than the Edmund 1” shaft GEM is redid a few years ago for the 4” Edmund refraction I had then. I got this one to use with a 6” or 8” Classical Cassegrain I was contemplating but have since re-prioritized.

It includes a new 1” flange that I bought to put a mounting plate on it, but it also comes with the original cast iron tube saddle. it also come with two counterweights with lock screws. One of the counterweights also has the 1” side bore so you can L-mount them rather than stack them if you wish (you will need a 1” o.d. pipe or shaft if you go that route). Also included is an additional 1” shaft collar to use as a toe saver on the dec shaft (it’s not drilled and tapped for a bolt and washer toe saver). Lastly, the 3” i.d.’pier cap and bolt is included.

I have over a hundred invested but am happy to give it away for the cost of shipping as long as you’re gonna use it! This offer is NOT for flippers, vendors, or resellers!

Taker pays shipping USPS (CONUS only). Local pickup is encouraged due to weight. I’ll meet you at the Cincinnati Observatory. Otherwise, I can ship it for $42 bucks incl. PayPal. It will ship in two USPS flat-rate boxes (large and medium).

If you didn’t read my posts in the ‘What did you do to your Scope/Mount today’ topic (posts #4921, 4923, and 4935) of this forum, actually I reconsidered letting it go when my friend said there was some machine shop time available and I wound up hanging on to this. I did a complete refurbish for tripod mounting. I’m glad I did, I think I’ll get a lot of use out of this old plow horse now.

Since I wound up making my own aluminum flange head to hold the Vixen clamping jaw on my Jaegers 1” shaft GEM rebuild, I no longer have any use for the flange (actually a JA1 QD Bushing) I ordered from eBay. It includes three 10-24" x 1“ allen-head countersink set screws to affix a mounting plate. The head is 1.656” in diameter and it has a 1” bore that easily fits on a 1” shaft. It will need you to drill and tap a set screw into it’s shank. You can use it to replace a fixed saddle on an Edmund or Jaegers 1” shaft GEM on on a pillow block 1” shaft mount of your own design. Free for $4.00 in postage.
