I must have done a good deed or something. After a seven month wait, I picked up my Coronado Solarmax 40 for my ST80. The sky cleared as I drove home...I was truley blessed. Well...you haven't seen anything until you look at the sun with this and the binoviewer(special thanks to my generous brother for lending me his OCS). This is living. I'll never get bored taking in this view...ever! Eat yer hearts out lads!

I've got a chance to do some H-alpha coming up - I've gotta admit, I'm really looking forward to it. I hear it's just a *little* ;) more exciting than white light.

Hi Guys,
I have a solarmax 40 that rides my piggybacked 102mmF5 Skywatcher which in turn rides my 12"lx200.Which one of you has the good scope  .I don't use the filter too much lately but it sure works nice with the Denkmeier.Really gives some nice definition to old Sol :).I like my baader white light film too.Are you two enjoying the same nice weather we have in Sarnia?
One thing,I'm new at this type of group and would like to have one of those little pictures with my name. How do you do that?Thanks..Tom Munroe

Tom -

You are from Sarnia? Good lord man, I'm only about 70 minutes from you!!! I'm in the middle of Michigan's thumb, and Port Huron is about an hour from here.

Small world! You going to Astrofest this year?

Hi John:

Wait, let me understand this. You're complaining that all the "rich guys" are using Panoptics and Naglers on Nexstar11s , and you're out there shelling out big bucks just to look at ONE star? At least we can see many stars with the Pans ;)

Clear skies,
Jim

You noticed that eh Jim? He also "borrows" a lot of stuff.
Right now he has my OCS. Last month it was my Orthos. I once lent him a pair of photo lites. He sold them
Oh well, thats what brothers do. That reminds me...he used to "borrow" my motorcycle when I wasn't around.

Hello Tom M in Sarnia. Yes the weather in Cambridge has probably been the same, great. Last night was clear but the quality of the "seeing" diminished as the night went on. Was cold too. Needed the toque!

You guys are getting too cute with your GIF's! The tiger and Bart are to die for. Give you guys a little string and you run with it. I had to settle for a two year old pic stolen off another site. :p

Well Jim, it's like this; I had to sell the first born to get the Solarmax. I think I did all right! And I never borrowed Pat's motorcycle. I TOOK IT! Pat kept falling down with it anyway. And Pat, in regards to your signature; "Don't be a **** on the Railing of Life"

All you guys are posting just so you won't be called "newbies" anymore.

"All you guys are posting just so you won't be called "newbies" anymore."

I'm trying to get rid of term "Junior". Much worse than "newbie".

At some point that leads to "Senior" and we're back to peein' in our pants.

And God said "Gabrial, pull my finger. And there was light.

Enough with the old jokes :)Let's talk about something really important. How do you get such a small picture file so people can laugh at my mug too?Other than that how do I get hair on my picture while I'm doing it ;)Tom T,I don't think I'll get too far from home at all this summer,my knees will probably be mostly metal around that time.Maybe they'll heal up but the way things are going so far I don't get any big plans.I sure wish I could get to any star party, never have :(
On a lighter note I had some young folks drop by and see what the funny spinning shed was all about. My wife caught them on film(ok flash card),see photo.I hope I'm doing this picture thing right, just learned how to do it on the old forum.BTW thanks Jim and Tom T for the nice new home also thanks to Allister.

I have an old retired shooter that has a digital camera and time. He is the clubs' webmaster and has taken on the job of posting scores and articles for our airgun matches. He did all the work. I should know but don't!

You need a digital image and some software to shrink the image. Many have a pre-canned method to do this. Depends on which package you use. The original image of me was quite a bit bigger. He has cropped it (the hat hides what little hair loss that shows) to fit in a small square. Don't know if it's "standard" web site size or what. I've used it a couple times since it turned out quite well all things considered.

Hi Tom:

I've got all kinds of software, Photoshop, Maxim, etc. As well as some simpler stuff. Send me the photo you want to use and I'll reduce it and send it back.

Clear skies,
Jim

Tom;

If you don't have any software or are willing to beat your head against a wall for a spell download GIMP. Start at www.gimp.org. This started out for Linux/UNIX but they have a Windows version. It's free. It's very very powerful. It's free. I've used it for several years but still don't have a good handle on it. It's free.

And you can freely install it on as many computers as you like; legally. Not quite as good Photoshop but it doesn't cost $500 either. For most folks, it has all the power they need and then some.

I have yet to figure out how to shrink an image in it (no reason to until now) and I have yet to go digital. Let me get a bino-viewer first!

You can email me off line if you wish for download, install and using hints. A gal at work had problems downloading it and I though she was "good" at computers. It's not that difficult but you do have to read the screen.

But once you see the kicking gal GIF you may change your mind. ;)

Thanks for the offer Ron,but my old little laptop is straining under it's memory load now.I cannot download most things at all.I think somewhere I lost my unzipper? The ability to talk on these groups and search the web is fine for me.The only reason I have the computer is to control my scope in the observatory with Sky Map Pro.BTW I really get a kick out of that aspect of my lx200.It is so cool to just pick out anything in the program and have the beast goto it without fail(grinding or not ;))I do thank you for the idea though.
