Real warm here & the Haematacoccus are going to town in the bird bath. Lots of rotifers with them.

I thought I was going to have a chance at picking up some tips about keeping algae from growing in my bird bath.

Its pretty easy, as long as you don't mine not having birds ;-P

We scrub out the baths with boiling water, no soap or detergent, when necessary. Since these things are brought in by birds, bugs, wind, leafs, etc, they always come back. Probably, in some baths you never get rid of all of the little blighters; they can hide out in concrete, under parts, under paint bubbles.
The good thing is that the algae, other protists & metazoans are fodder for the microscope.
