I got the ASI178MM Cool - mono cooled IMX178. Tested in home with FireCapture and Nebulosity4 and it seems to work nicely.

FireCapture bin1:

FireCapture bin2:

- Dark frame - 1min x 20 at -10C, lowest read noise preset, Nebulosity 4
- Bias frame - around 300 frames, -10C, lowest read noise preset, Nebulosity 4 (it's not a flat, bad filename ;))
- bin 1 image - lowest read noise preset, Nebulosity 4, 16mm C-mount lens
- bin 2 image - lowest read noise preset, Nebulosity 4, 16mm C-mount lens

The ASCOM driver has also "unity gain" and "highest dynamic range" presets, but offset/gain etc. can be set as you wish.

If you ever get the chance, could you test it for solar Imaging, preferably Ha ?

Regards,

At the moment I don't have a solar telescope, but in general Sony sensors work correctly ;)

Hello Piotr,

i am a bit disappointed with the dark and flat pictures.

The ampglow is there, maybe less then IMX224 sensor, but it is not very very good for a cooled brand new camera. I am wondering if the treatment will be so easy to do with that ampglow (which must not be always the same i suppose). I will be very hard to manage and maybe it will be difficult to make dark bank.

There is also a lot of dead pixels (maybe it is normal, i don't know).

The masterbias is also not very good. I expected better result. We can still see the FPN.

Maybe i expected too much with those new sensors.

Alain

This is first-generation of multipurpose cooled cameras. The prices end just below prices for cameras like Atik 314L+ and the performance point is similar - just bit below. But still I'll see what I can do for DS imaging with it. Key object for all those pixels is the Moon. Slightly better performance than IMX174 - for planets.

But still people did super DS images with those type of Sony sensors and it's just matter of processing how much you can get from them.
