Hey Russ, I'm wondering if your old objective might be of any use to Robert (actionhac)?  His is clammed, but maybe by combining elements, he might come up with something better?

Well, there's a good idea!! I'll just shoot him an email and ask!  He's the proud new owner of the focuser.... (did I already tell you that?)

Robert did indeed think it was a good idea!!  For the price of a padded box, it's going to visit his house!

A very good idea!

I'm going to start crossing fingers and toes in hopes Russ's fracture is in the crown!

I think all my clams are on the flint because I remember there isn't much room for spacers!

But even if Russ's flint is cracked and the crown is good I could use a new crown because

my crown is missing most of its coatings!

Robert

yes, I messaged the guy for a nameplate and a photo of the glass, but all I got was the nameplate.

That would make it the third oldest in the Registry. Mine still being the second (60028)!

I was happy to pay $300 for mine. Of course it was complete write down to the original paperwork, manual, cleaning cloth, etc. and in excellent condition. I have it set up in an honored position in the living room! I love it! Sooo pretty! And sooo portable and produces excellent images! I drove almost 1000 miles round trip in one day to get it and have never been unhappy with the deal.

Thanks!  I added it to the registry as a CL listing.  If someone here buys it, let me know so I can update it's ownership.

I received Russ's lens today, thanks Russ! what a beauty on the outside! and I can't

wait to try it out and see this mysterious 'ghost clam fracture'.

Here they are, I did the swap today. I thought I would try out the complete 'new' lens

before I mix and match my elements with the new elements, I might be able to have

a 'clam free' Swift.

Wasn't Texas Nautical the sole Swift seller, back in the day?  If so, it might explain why Swifts aren't as ubiquitous as many of their contemporaries.

Swift 838 V10.jpg

Brass shining through on the DEC axis acorn:  A previous owner used pliers rather than the grub screw to snug it up against the casting.  Why?  IDK!   I can smooth it out, and hope that JD can match up the paint.  The things done to these old scopes -- criminal.

And, all the scratches on the legs... What happened?  Was it drug through a brier patch??

Really interested in your opinion of the optics- once it stops raining!  Raining here, too but supposed to clear up a bit on the weekend.  Yeah, right.
