I use V 1.0.2.5 with no SGP problems as you describe. Why not ask Sam directly to send you the previous driver (V 1.0.2.5) to try out, he should also be aware of your referral of that issue to the SGP guys.

Cheers Glen. I believe Jared from SGP is in contact with Sam regarding this matter.

here is a new version suppose to fix this problem

please try, thanks

That seems to have done the trick! Thanks very much guys. Great to have such a fast turn-around time, especially given that it's a weekend.

One of the reasons to buy this camera is the amazing response to issues by ZWO, an issue was pointed out and a new driver was with us in one day. It looks like the images are as good as other cameras you were considering and the flexibility to do planetary and EAA has not changed.

Soon there will be an integrated filter wheel and OAG combo from ZWO which will answer another question.

From discussions I have had with ZWO they are getting a lot of orders for these cameras and shipping many. So out of those people we have only seen a couple of issues. One was a cooling issue where an internal cable was loose (soon fixed) and another is Dan who has MAC issues which should be solved with a new windows PC. The tilt thing is not proven to be part of the camera right now. No one has done a rotation test to show that there is tilt in the sensor on any camera so far. If some examples have tilt I am sure ZWO will sort the issue quickly.

So to only get two problems is incredible on a new product. Driver and software issues are different than hardware ones and in my opinion have been dealt with quickly and efficiently by both ZWO and SGP.

Terry

Do you have an Offset recommendation Jon to go with that Gain?

Yes, sorry. I've been using an offset of 12. I have not scientifically determined that, more just best guess.

Jon isn't 21 offset comparable to unity gain? So would you necessarily scale up or down offset as you change gain?

Sam are there release notes for these driver updates? It would really help our structured testing if we knew exactly what changed between versions.

I wonder if it would help everyone if we ended this thread and created several new ones (just brainstorming - feel free to suggest others):

- ASI1600MM Camera Performance - put all of Jon's data in there and continue the thread with only discussion of technical topics like gain, read noise, etc
- ASI1600MM USB HW Troubleshooting - USB specific problems
- ASI1600MM Software/Driver Troubleshooting
- ASI1600MM Post Your Images!

I agree, there's lots of great info in this thread, but it's going to be pretty useless to anyone in the future unless they're willing to wade through 1700+ (and counting) posts.

The SNR could be a lot better if this discussion were to be split out into separate threads.

A lot of the topics are interrelated and depend on one another. Search will be helpful for finding info. I think it would be nice to create a summary of lessons learned in a few weeks to help others getting started with the camera. I have my own detailed notes for that purpose which I may eventually edit for public consumption and post to a new thread once the conclusion of many of the open questions has been reached.

I wish I shared your optimism that there will be a conclusion to this thread. The sooner everyone stops using this thread as a dumping ground, the better IMHO.

It's a big messy blob with 50+ different discussions spread across hundreds of pages. It will be a nightmare as far as future reference.

The deep testing and sharing of results here is a real reason to stick with your order. This camera is really being put through it's paces! And the result as Jon is showing is a deeper understanding of how to get the best out of it. That is going to continue. After all it's only been in peoples hands for a few weeks.

Well,

I am bummed. The Wmacky tropics hex kept me under clouds until 4am and it was too late to start imaging. I have nothing to show or measurements to share from last night. People are kicking me in my OPT TPO/GSO RC10 at f/6.7. The thread is falling apart. Hard to keep a mass of goo together when it starts spinning. Kyle is volunteering to write a eulogy, "The ASI1600 MM Cool Thread - 45 Days of Introduction Chaos - Executive Summary". I think that is a good idea also.

Here is a positive.... We have freedom of choice. You can read what you want to read. If members of the group want to start new threads, they can do so, and everyone is happy. Mikefulb suggested to split it. I think that was a good suggestion. The forum is taking care of that for us. I think I saw some other threads already posting that are titled differently.

This really has been a beneficial and fun thread to participate in. Thanks Tolga for starting it. All good things must come to an end, or evolve. Both will happen herein.

PS. It is okay to criticize my equipment. I know I have issues with my RC, and the cool thing is that they are crystalized in this discussion I am going to try to work through them.

I personally think this thread has run it's course.  There are 50 pages of people dealing with SGP crashes and software/hardware intricacies alone that are now resolved along with countless issues that a new buyer would not care about or ever have to deal with.   Putting the "useful future reference" material in a short few posts would be the best way to close it.

Incidentally I started my own thread about getting up and running with the camera 1000 posts ago because I thought this thread was huge then.   This has to be one of the biggest threads I have ever seen on CN.

May I suggest that we break the thread into a few key topics and sticky them temporarily until the chatter slows to a crawl and then un-sticky them.

I used an offset of 12, not 21. The offset only needs to be large enough to prevent negative clipping due to noise. I don't believe an offset of 21 is necessary at gain 75, but I do think more than 10, the offset used at gain 0, is necessary. I may increase it a little more, however in order to maximize DR, you want to use the smallest offset you can get away with that avoids clipping.

Well, it sounds like this thread may be coming to a close. I am working on getting some articles written for my blog that will be a repository of the testing and analyses I have done, for those interested in a more direct and concise location for all of that information.

It might be a good idea to keep this thread around as the troubleshooting thread, but I do agree that splitting off some of the other discussions, such as sharing images and optimizing the camera's performance, into other threads would be useful.

I wish a moderator would lock it so we could move on.

The camera is no longer in beta, so the the thread should not be used any more.

I'm more than willing to lock this thread - but I would like a few of the active members here to concur before I do it.

Breaking the thread into pieces at this point in time is not easy. Too many posts cross over into too many sub-topics. This is the reason we prefer to keep posts on-topic. At this time, it's best to leave things as they are.

I've only posted here a few times so I'm not one of the active members but I'll add my voice to lock it. Its got just too big and cumbersome to navigate.

Lock it but then make it a sticky until the testing has reached a conclusion and it's usage is really known. Then unstick it.

I would like to thank everyone for the hard work they put into this thread. I have learned a lot by sharing ideas. Since the Beta test is over let's lock this and start a new.

It's been a pleasure gentlemen.

Thank you
Tolga
