HPP - Highly Portable Performance:

In most orientations, very similar eyepiece height -- perfect for one of my favorite outdoor chairs.

ATLAS Shrugged on the Carton Mount:

Atlas 4436 Restore S52 - Carton AZ (RS FL).jpg

I'll probably make a metal collar / cuff, and attach the altitude rod hardware to it, even though the mount & tripod are too rickety for field use...

To this day I can't believe I owned this Sears 6345 only for a short while and

then it was traded towards my orange C14. The orange C14 is gone now too.

I don't have a explanation other than I'm not a machine I make mistakes.

I picked up a 6345 about a year and a half ago for $150. It was just the optical tube assembly with all the eyepieces and attachments. I recently mounted it on a Unitron heavy duty Alt/Az mount. I don’t think I will ever get rid of it. It is a stunning telescope with excellent optics. I have a number of classic refractors, and just added a Unitron model 114. Not only do I enjoy using them but I enjoy looking at them.

There is something addictive for quality small refractors. Can't explain it. Reminds me of at a young age I'd always look for telescopes when going into a department store like Sears or J C Penny.

This probably doesn't count, as it was a prototype C-14 from about 20 years ago.  I found a corrector for it a few years back, and am testing the assembled scope now.  It's not superb, optically, but it's not bad either.  It's got a huge baffle and secondary, intended for wide field.  So I'm hoping to use it for full frame or medium format imaging, if I can find a field flattener around 3" clear aperture (if such an animal exists, that is).

A ~110 years old 125/2000mm british refractor; manufactorer so far unknown ... though the lens is not coated it brings famous views on planets, moon und double stars (last pic a comparison to a Vixen 90/1300mm).

best regards Hannes

Here is a classic combo I put together some years ago.  Meade ETX 125 modified by Wegat optical riding on an Orion mount customized by Ken Dauzat.

Lovely to see pictures of your amazing craftsmanship again Ken! Is this the one with where the objective collimation can be adjusted at the eyepiece? bow.gif waytogo.gif

Hi Jim

I owned a machine shop. That was an antique cast iron grinder stand from WWII that I bought from a guy for $25,  I hauled that monster around for 35 years thinking I might be able to do something with it someday.  Finally I fabricated an extension for it, machined it, and then had it sandblasted and powder coated.

Fun project!

Larry
