Grava, nice scope and yard. Quick question: Don't you mean 77mm F=1000 ?

Thanks and nope, it's an f=1200.

OK, just one more. These are the 50mm scopes. L to R: Sears 24146 (600mm) - a good scope, but not great; Unitron 105 (700mm) - a truly great scope; HyScore 457 (500mm) - same as Astro Optical R-53 - another great scope; Tasco Terrastro (600mm) very well built - optics are greatly improved since I de-cemented the the components and air spaced them; Tasco 66TE Cosmic II (600mm)- an excellent performer; on the floor - Bushnell Sky Rover (500mm) - the best 50mm scope I've ever used.

Wow! You have another collection in the 50mm range! That's just awesome!

I also de-cemented a 6" f/5 objective. The maker is unknown to me, but I know it is not a Jaegers. I separated the lens easily by soaking the achromat in a pot of water (paper towels immersed to protect the lenses) that was heated to a slow simmer. Once the elements came apart, the balsam just slid off of them with ease.

Hi everyone,
This Tasco is a fun grab and go an never fails to amaze me
(yes, it has push/pull in case your wondering)
Love it, sorry, not for sale
Tasco 7TE-5 60x1000mm f16.7

I'll bet that mount works like a charm with that scope.

Hey Labmand!

I agree with Charlie! If that is a Vixen Polaris mount, you are golden. Those are great EQ's.

Despite your esthetic concerns (hose clamps), you have a sure winner in the mount, as well as the telescope. I even invested a custom Crayford focuser from Crawmach for one of my Tasco 7te-5. The optics are so good, that I had to get on just for observing.

Mel, thanks, It is a Vixen Polaris mount
I did change the hose clamps for 76mm rings
after the posting, looks much better and easier
to use, I see you also have a Jason 313 so when you
talk "golden" you know what your talking about.

Here is the business end of a 3" Vixen achro (1990's), piggyback Asahi-Pentax 2" achro (1950's), and University Optics 50mm finder (1980's). Riding on a 1990's Vixen SP mount. One of my all-time favorite rigs to use and now long gone - parted out and split to the four winds.

Great picture James. Is that a Corgi? I used to have the Pembroke with the bobbed tail. She was a wonderful companion. She always wanted to heard my girls when they were little. Such a dutiful instinct!

Thanks Terra.

Half of her is Corgi, the other half is Collie, which is where she gets her bushy fox's tail from! We got Cara when she was 3 and she is now nearing 10 but displays no herding instinct at all despite her ancestry. Mind you, as she lives with 4 cats she wouldn't have much luck with herding them in any case.

Sorry for the delay in replying, we drove back up to Scotland from London yesterday and with stops to water Cara and ourselves it took ten and a half hours so just getting back to normal now!

The project has started... Cave Astrola 10" Cassegrain F/16 Portable which seems to be in great shape. Mirror has not been removed and the edge is not visible. Astro Lab boxes are being checked out and I think a few eye pieces and diagonal are missing. Hope there are still some folks out there who can assist with questions and problems. I have corresponded with Tom at who is a great resource. Very excited to begin the restoration of Cave Cassy... Bob

Bob, can you post a new thread with pics? Los of pics?

I've got one of these, as does Tom ("Turk"). His thread about his restoration is on page 1 here, as it's currently active.

Mine is just the OTA, but I show it apart, as well:

1965 Cave 10" DK OTA

Here's a pic of it on my Tak NJP mount:

Here is my Super Polaris mounting with a Great Polaris C102 4"f10 achromat. Normally a SP-C102F 4"f9 apochromat belongs on the SP and this GP belongs on a Great Polaris. The Super Polaris has a drive and the GP doesn't so I'm using the SP and I'd forgotten how much purple the achromat shows over the apochromat so I have the GP on the SP for the time being.
