Has anyone compared the Jaegers 6 inch f/5 with the Celestron Omni 150mm f/5? Just curious…

What is the Pentax? That looks like a winner!

That's a Pentax 85, fl 1000mm, with the rare AC clock drive.

Yes, lens wise the Omni was a little better. Both corrected in red, not green. But could have been sample variation.

If you look closely at the photo of my 6” f/5 Jaegers you’ll see that I am using a 2” Meade 32mm RG wide field. That pretty much maxes out the exit pupil at 6.4mm, which is about right for my age. The field of view seems to be about 3 degrees with this eyepiece, but I need to check. I have several options for eyepieces in the 26-70mm range, but this vintage Meade seems to be just about perfect! I am looking forward to getting this scope out under dark skies when the weather turns mild.

Huh - if one of those comes up for sale I'll be tempted.

John
Looked nice up close when we saw it in person your Jaegers 6 inch F 5
I have the 5 inch F5 I like the Silvertop 26 for sweeping or the Meade Ultra wide and of course the Nag 31 Hand grenade lens is awesome in it as well
Can't wait for Summer Sagittarius and Milky way sweeping around
Here is mine at Stellafane

As I remember those guys managed to land a 60" mirror for that project. I wonder how it is coming along now?

My Goto Kogaku Comet 40mm f750 that came complete every nut and bolt, including its original mount and storage case a very well corrected foiled spaced uncoated lense virtually color free the glass is beautiful the mount is quite heavy and stable it was not sold with any security hardware to prevent the legs from spreading but if careful it wouldn't be a problem the mount head is a primitive slow motion fluid style the optics are very good planets are beautiful and sharp beyond its supplied max powered eyepiece double stars are beautiful and sweeping the skies with a low power eyepiece shows a lot of light gathering power for its small aperture, and it is very satisfying there was a discussion previously as to why would they use such a big tube for such a small objective and how it seemed unusual and unnecessary and in my opinion it was completely intended and is part of the reason it performs the way it does i def wouldn't have bought it for what i did had it not come complete but in the end def worth more than what i got it for it's amazing how some people take care of their things for so long that they can keep being appreciated and admired by others in the future, but eventually it would be safer if these things end up being preserved in places they would be cared for like priceless artifacts.

Found a couple pics of 8” D&G on homemade EQ mount, chromacor etc f12.

That's fantastic! What's the story with the beautiful back end? Is that custom made? Still have this rig?

I use a Cave 1.5" with my refractors too.
It's a wonderful mount.

Here it is with my Edmund 5 inch f/15
Love both. Wish I could find a cave refractor complete one of these days

Well it has an older electronic focuser but it works perfect, 60mm finder; baader diaginal that has proper amount of spacers befor the chromacor. If you want to see it I can take a pic,,,, gives colorless views

This should be fun. I'm setting up for an evening of star-hopping with a pair of rich field refractors on a Twilight 2 mount. That's a 5" f/5 Jaegers on the left, and a 6" f/5 Jaegers on the right. The 5" is fitted with a 2" 32mm Meade SWA and the 6" is fitted with a vintage 2" 32mm Meade RG Wide Angle. That pretty much maxes out the exit pupil on both scopes.
I was a bit surprised at the size different between the two scopes. I'll know more in a couple of hours, but the 5" gives a wider field while the 6" gives a brighter field. On large objects like the Pleiades and the Beehive the 5" is just stunning. Even simple fields like the Belt of Orion and the Sword of Orion are just gorgeous in the 5".
Neat stuff.
