Anyone know if there are any special washing instructions for the Dark Skies Apparel vest?

Yes. Hand wash cold water only, line dry, iron if desired. These babies will shrink unbelievably if you do otherwise. 

 

Sad to hear they will no longer be available. I have both a daytime and nighttime vest. 

 

I wonder if they would make their patterns available.

I'd had a hood for a while when I decided a vest would be nice for the winter and ordered one. Dragan had to look to see if there were any left to ship. I got lucky and maybe the last one. His description was that they suspended DSA operations to concentrate on other businesses and their astro website for a while. Nice folks.

I'd suggest watching the r-sky site. They picked up the hood idea and seem to be expanding their offerings pretty steadily. Their Telrad heater strip dew remover is EXCELLENT.

Keep an eye out on the second hand market , they'll probably be a few for sale at an inflated price now that they are not made any more.

That's too bad they went out of business. I purchased mine about 5 years ago and use it a lot. Blocks stray light and allows you to keep both eyes open at the EP. It makes for comfortable viewing and all the pockets are a bonus. Even very dark sky sites it can be useful.

He shipped the hood the same day of the Paypal transfer. Shipping is only five dollars. Only been a week, so I don't expect it for a few days yet. I will update when I get it.

There were absolutely no problems with my order at all and everything showed up in @ 10 days. The products are excellent performers - dew heaters.

I won mine in a raffle, and love it. Just used it for 3 nights at the Cherry Springs Star Party.

I was given one as a retirement gift a little over two years ago.  Don't need it

at home but comes in handy when I travel.

Got it today, and the hood seems excellent. I think that this hood along with a photo or fishing vest will make a suitable replacement.

You basically have to do your own head drape, with a dark towel or some such.

As mentioned, it's not the same as an over sized, designed, attached observing hood, like the DSA.

I was looking at that hood recently when I ordered some dew strips from R-Sky.  I should have added a hood to the order.

Thats what I did, Bob, and am quite happy with the result. Must admit, though, that the vest i am using doesn't have deep enough pockets for 2" ep. Will have to find a better vest.

Just received my R-sky observing hood from Russia.

It took 15 days for tracked delivery requiring a signature on postal delivery.

Excellent service, great communication with Roman.

 

A great design with adjustable snaps to adjust fit around your neck.

Excellent ergonomics and very dark light blocking material.

Highly recommended !!
