Andy,

when we receive such messages after installing libraries, it may mean that compiling the program also requires their ...-dev packages.

sudo apt install libgphoto2-dev

Uruk_One is already added to Astronomy Linux 21.04

"Uruk_One is neither a Planetarium, nor a user-friendly software for a novice amateur astronomer whose aim is just to see how the night sky appears tonight. Uruk_One is aimed at experienced astronomers who study past, present and future astronomical events, historians searching for a correlation between historical and astronomical events, verification of ancient reports about eclipses and so on. For the same reason this software does not include capabilities of controlling telescopes."

Oleg, what an amazing thread this is. Thank you for creating it and sharing so much valuable information.

My OS is Linux Kubuntu 20.04

I am considering getting a PoleMaster, so I installed PoleMaster_Qt 1.3.5 which created an entry in the application launcher, with an icon for the camera. When I click on it, nothing happens.

When I right-click on the launcher entry > click on Edit application > click on Application tab > I see that the Command is:

bash /usr/bin/PoleMaster/PoleMaster.sh

So, from a terminal (I use Guake Indicator), when I do this:

cd /usr/bin/PoleMaster
dir

I can see lib files, etc plus PoleMaster.sh and also PoleMaster.ini

when I do this:

bash /usr/bin/PoleMaster/PoleMaster.sh

I get this:

/usr/bin/PoleMaster/PoleMaster.sh: line 12:  3182 Illegal instruction     (core dumped) $dirname/$appname "$@"

Opening PoleMaster.sh in Kate, I see that line 12 is this:

$dirname/$appname "$@"

Have you come aross this issue before? What do I need to do to get this app running, do you know?

I have other problem with PoleMaster:

$ ./PoleMaster.sh
Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-call-libc-early-init.c: 37: _dl_call_libc_early_init: Assertion `sym != NULL' failed!

$ ./PoleMaster.sh
Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-call-libc-early-init.c: 37: _dl_call_libc_early_init: Assertion `sym != NULL' failed!

Ah ha! I've got it working now. I found this https://www.qhyccd.c...hp?topic=6782.0 very helpful.

So, from a terminal, to check if any libraries are missing, type

cd /usr/bin/PoleMaster
ldd PoleMaster

Then scroll up through the list of libraries, to see which ones are missing. I installed the libraries that were missing like this

sudo cp /usr/bin/PoleMaster/libqhy.so.1 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
sudo cp /usr/bin/PoleMaster/libopencv_core.so.2.4 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
sudo cp /usr/bin/PoleMaster/libopencv_imgproc.so.2.4 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
ldconfig -n -v /usr/lib

Now I can start PoleMaster, like this

sudo /usr/bin/PoleMaster/PoleMaster

In order to be able to start PoleMaster using the Application Launcher (from the KDE Plasma GUI, in Kubuntu), right-click on the PoleMaster icon > click on Edit Application > click on the Application tab > then change the Command from

 bash /usr/bin/PoleMaster/PoleMaster.sh

to this

 /usr/bin/PoleMaster/PoleMaster

finally, click on OK to save the change. Now I can start PoleMaster by clicking on the icon. Like so many other things, simple when you know how.

Well the Linux version of the PoleMaster app, PoleMaster_Qt, seems to run okay, but ...

now I have a PoleMaster camera, with it connected via its USB cable, when I click on Device > Connect

a notification window entitled Info pops up, displaying the message: 'Not Found QHYCCD PoleMaster equipmment'

So, apparently the Linux driver doesn't work, as the app doesn't connect to the camera.

The notebook computer I am using is configured to dual boot Linux and Windows 7.

So, I have installed the PoleMaster app and driver for Windows and that seems to work fine.

Similarly, I have a NUC computer (Linux only), with the PoleMaster_Qt app installed.

The app seems to run okay, but with the camera connected via USB,

when I click on Device > Connect, I get the same 'Not Found' message.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Does anyone know how to get a driver for Linux to work?

Notice that on QHYCCD's download page https://www.qhyccd.com/download.html

in the PoleMaster section for Windows there is a separate download for the driver, which I installed.

However, the LINUX Deb section does not list a separate driver.

Thanks. In fact it turns out that the driver was missing.  Whilst I had installed .deb file, what I didn't realize is that I should have also downloaded the SDK from QHYCCD's website, as it includes the driver! I expected the driver to be included in the .deb file. When I saw SDK on their downloads page, I thought it was intended for developers (ie Software Development Kit). The SDK includes a file called install.sh which has to be executed, to install the driver. If anyone needs information on how to do this then let me know and I will gladly do what I can to help them. So, I now have the PoleMaster working with Linux Kubuntu 20.04 on my NUC and Kubuntu 20.04 on my Toshiba notebook. The SDK file is called sdk_linux64_21.03.13.tgz so it looks like it was last updated on 13th March. I have found support from QHYCCD to be excellent and would like to thank them for their time, patience and help. Now I just need clear skies to test it with starlight.

A slightly smaller version that for sure fits on a dvd for OG's with old hardware.

Love the distro!

Thanks!
