Saw this posted over in the ASI yahoo group...

Looks like our ASI1600s are last generation already!

I can't wait for the thread!

Is that a coffee brewer on the back side?

Don't we still need a better driver?

Hey,  The grill is rotated.  Now I am really mad.

Guess the guider port is kinda ancient tech so they could lose it?

Check out the lid.  They changed it in order to avoid potential desiccant disasters?  Less grip, more slip, on the lid that is.

Sorry if this is dumb, what's the purpose of the two USB2 ports?

I sent my (old) ASI1600 back for amp glow repair a couple weeks ago, maybe they'll send me back a new one!

Also for anyone wondering apparently ZWO will be releasing new filters that are color matched to the ASI1600mm. Sam also said they are considering selling narrowband filters at some point.

So,

I am now going to take this opportunity to say that I think the camera is absolutely awesome.  It surpassed my wildest expectations, good FOV, light weight, cheap, sensitive, low noise, versatile for planetary and deep sky.  I got lucky and went for it.   One of the best purchases I have made in astrophotography equipment.

Glad to hear it Emilio :). I can't wait to get mine back. Will you be able to connect a filter wheel and focuser to these USB2 ports for improved cable management?

The rotated grill provides better ventilation :)

I am wondering about that USB 2 double port too. Is that like a through? Maybe it'll pair with their new FW?

Looks like it includes an integrated USB 2.0 hub. That is a nice feature, if that is what it is. Allows you to pair a USB driven filter wheel with it no problem. I wonder if the rumored soon to be released ZWO filter wheel runs directly off of USB? if so perhaps that is the reason for the update.

Yeah maybe it's a powered hub too, running off the DC cooling power supply. That would be great to take some load off the laptop.

This is concerning on several levels, as the USB3 performance issues on the original release of the camera have not been completely resolved.  Are the original Beta Testers now involved in testing the new version? What release of driver is required to support it and are they going to be backward compatible or are the non-USB hub models stranded? Is ZWO going to retrofit all the early released models that do not have the USB hub? Etc etc

Very nice Sam. Cable management certainly looks better using the internal hubs. Will all future ASI cameras have this two hub design or just the 1600 ?

this is a little hard because we changed the main PCB board and also the back panel of the house

but we will consider it

Were any other fixes implemented with that PCB board change?

I am happy with having my filter wheel and guide camera on my separate USB hub but I concede integrating it makes cable management easier.  For those of us that bought the original version, looks like we now have a relatively rare classic. :waytogo:

Here is the new design. I also tested ascom driver V12 with SkyX. I works without any glitches.

Does that mean only one driver needs installed to control the camera, FW and guider?

USB hub don't need driver but other devices need

it works just like taking your computer's usb port closer, better cable managment

only one cable from your PC to the camera is enough
