Pic of my latest scope setup with twin Binoviewers. One is the TV Bino on the N11 and the other is the Celestron Bino with the piggyback TV85. My "Astro-Truck" continues to evolve in order to accomodate all the necessary stuff....Battery box, computer, etc.

Hi Jim!

A NS11 owner, I'm curious about your experience piggybacking the TV-85 - any drive/balance issues in your experience? The twin binoviewing setup is most impressive, though I think my twin eyepiece collection is going to stay stuck at a pair of 19mm Pans for awhile...

I too have found a pickup with a shell to be a terrific astronomy vehicle. A Toyota was succeeded by a Dakota, which has enough power to pull our travel trailer when I bring the wife and daughter along. For solo trips to places like Mt. Pinos, though, I still just take the truck and sleep in the shell...

Clear Skies!

Hi Jim,
The TV-85 is probably the max size for the N11. I used about 12.5 lbs. of counter weight to get a decent balance. The attached pic shows the counter weights that I'm using. I purchased 3- 2.5 pounders from Losmanday and machined-up one 5 pounder on my own. The arrangement that you see, works our quite well. Yeah, the pickup is great for outings........I know it doesn't look like there's room, but I can sack-out quite nicely. Being able to attached files and/or pics is really great! I very much enjoy looking at other folks stuff, to get ideas for improvement.

Regards,

Jim Collins

Jim;

I just had to comment on your picture, technically it's quite good and well above the quality I normally see on posts. Nice colour, very good contrast. Could almost be an ad for astronomy gadgets. Well done!

Hi Ron,
Thanks for the kudos on my pics. I like to take shots when ever I go on an outing of OPS (other peoples scopes)and to document the ocassion. It's nice to look back, since I'm not able to get out that many times during the year. The weather this weekend didn't cooperate so it will be at least another 2 weeks before I can get out to my dark site. I'm going to jump at my 1st chance......:jump:

Regards,

Jim;

When you get a moment, tell me what you use. If it's digital I'm really interested since we looking at finally going that route. Still "stuck" in wet film. :bawling:

Maybe we should start a new thread on cameras!

Hi Ron,
Yeah, it's an Olympus Digital...C4000Zoom and it's 4 megapixels. I origninally had the same camera which was a C3030Zoom at 3 megapixel before it was stolen at an airport xray security point. That's another story!!! :foreheadslap:

Anyway, both are excellent cameras. I have literally taken over a 1000 pics with these cams, both for work and at home. They produce excellent quality photos w/o any major effort.

Regards,
:yay:

PS....These Graemlins are great fun!

Jim;

I've heard good things about that unit. I'm not too sure if I want to go SLR and spend too much money or stick with a "cheap" unit. Probably end up going middle of the road. :bigshock:

Just spent too much getting a motor drive for my old camera that I've used for years. To top it off I went and bought a Nikonos IV-B and stobe for our vacation. Had a blast with it. But for what I spent on film and development I could have had a very nice digital. Maybe ebay...

These gremlins are propagating like movie gremlins too. Uf-da.

Have you tried to shoot thru your telescope with the Olympus?

Hi Ron,
No, I have not used the Olympus cam yet on the scopes. About 2 years ago I picked up a SAC5c (web cam) and have been very happy with my beginners imaging of the Moon and Planets. The Moon Pic in the upper left was taken with the TV-85 @ Prime Focus and all the others were taken @ Prime Focus on the N11. Take a look on http://www.sac-imaging.com/, They have some interesting stuff.

Regards,
