Interesting little Towa: http://www.ebay.com/...f8AAOSwcLxYMez9
Is this a S-N, or what they call a "Bird Jones"? (Read description.)
It's been on eBay before. Mirador brand, Tanzutsu on the cell, and Towa (with a rare for Towa S/N) on the label. It's not a S-N. It could be a very very rare decent implementation of the J-B design, but odds are, it's not.
These "catadioptric" tabletop scopes are intriguing little oddities, including their oddball mounts. Some of the mounts were Alt-Az, like the one in that ebay listing, and others were really spindly-looking EQ configurations. They sold under a raft of different labels, including Jason, Soligor, Mirador and a few others I've seen but don't remember. A friend of mine once told me that he attended a radiology convention where they were being given away as promotional gadgets, by a medical equipment leasing/finance company, IIRC.
From the reports I've read, the optics were mediocre to poor. Many had "Tanzutzu" in the engraving around the front ring, but others had just "Newtonian F9.9 D=76mm F=750mm." There was also a Jason version with a reflex finder, which was also sold as an "Astroscope 750" by Abercrombie and Fitch. San Diego's Goodwill has one of those listed on the auction site right now, with the oddball EQ mounting. They have the tripod legs removed, but you can see how it went together from the cover of the manual also shown in the main photo.
