Interesting little Towa:  http://www.ebay.com/...f8AAOSwcLxYMez9

Is this a S-N, or what they call a "Bird Jones"?  (Read description.)

It's been on eBay before.  Mirador brand, Tanzutsu on the cell, and Towa (with a rare for Towa S/N) on the label.  It's not a S-N.  It could be a very very rare decent implementation of the J-B design, but odds are, it's not.

These "catadioptric" tabletop scopes are intriguing little oddities, including their oddball mounts. Some of the mounts were Alt-Az, like the one in that ebay listing, and others were really spindly-looking EQ configurations. They sold under a raft of different labels, including Jason, Soligor, Mirador and a few others I've seen but don't remember. A friend of mine once told me that he attended a radiology convention where they were being given away as promotional gadgets, by a medical equipment leasing/finance company, IIRC.

From the reports I've read, the optics were mediocre to poor. Many had "Tanzutzu" in the engraving around the front ring, but others had just "Newtonian F9.9 D=76mm F=750mm." There was also a Jason version with a reflex finder, which was also sold as an "Astroscope 750" by Abercrombie and Fitch. San Diego's Goodwill has one of those listed on the auction site right now, with the oddball EQ mounting. They have the tripod legs removed, but you can see how it went together from the cover of the manual also shown in the main photo.

It's an NA120

I thought it looked just like an NA120 but the text says it's a 140.

The seller made an error. I think that distinctive looking focuser assembly was only used on the NA120. I've never seen a 140 or any image of a 140 with a focuser like that. There is even a picture from an ad of the 140 in the CL listing and it's not the same as the actual scope pictured.

I had an NA120 mounted on a GP and it was useable but borderline for me. Look where that stock counterweight is sitting. I had to add a second weight to improve performance and that was pushing it for the stock tripod legs.

All gray is a-okay!  Dang!  I could make a bino-dud with that one + mine!!  Somebody on this thread needs to talk to Teddy about it... soon.  I don't think it'll take too long to sell.

Thanks, but I'm not buying it, even if Mr. Hiyoshi signed the lens.  I'm just irritated with the Seller.  It's getting fishy, which is a shame if it's actually a good scope.

If I don't get a response, I'm contacting eBay myself.

I contacted eBay about a C8 I found that is listed as in "excellent condition", when it is in reality horribly damaged and dirty, and they did NOTHING. I contacted the seller, explaining politely that he was simply incorrect, and he lectured and threatened me because he was a "reputable seller" and this and that.

eBay will not deal with anything, and scammers get away with everything.
