Equipment is designed to process up to 400mm diameter parts.

What a tease you are!

Lana is having fun with a little mis-direction. Or should I say Maskirovka?

It's going to be a Mak-Cass. (Just my guess.)

Don't forget that Aries Optical of Ukraine did indeed manufacture 350 mm F/12 CaF2 doublets ...

CaF2 blanks are available up to 440 mm in diameter - thus a 17 inch CaF2 doublet APO could be possible

Ok, I'll try a direct question.

What is the largest CaF2 doublet you are planning on making Lana?

Jeff

I think the answer will be how big do you want to order? For a small shop I expect anything over 7 or 8" will be custom order, no large production runs as not many buyers of 9" plus APOs. Plus if they stay with their doublet design the focal ratios will have to increase to keep the same level of color correction as their small scopes.

A 10 inch F/12  CaF2 doublet would be awesome ...

Dear Jeff,

I didn't forget about your question!

Currently the largest doublet for Agema Optics  is 180mm. What size will be the largest in the future - I don't know yet. We have the possibility to make large optics but it could be limited by glass quality of bigger sizes.

Regards,

Lana

So … Lana, any intention of manufacturing "other than APO"?

The bolded text seems to be the real challenge with large aperture APO's.........other than the price bigshock.gif faint.gif .

Dear Bob,

Maybe. We will make an announcement if we decide to add new models to production.

For those of you considering a scope from Ed, the scope he made for me 16 years ago has the finest optics I've ever looked through before or since.

Richard's Mak is a 200/15.5 the first one I believe, my Mak is 200/20 circa 2002 and the last F/20 offered by TEC with small co, I am the third owner, is it safe to assume that mine was made by Ed as well? Optics are spectacular, looking at planets through this Mak is like looking through a 7" apo.

.

I had a larger Mak which I sold it recently, it was too heavy for me at my old age, that one was 250/20, another beauty, I am positive Ed was involved in this as well, Yuri personally delivered the scope to my house, we set a makeshift bench in our living room for him to do fine collimation with a large flat that he brought for that purpose, the scope was transported in the trunk of Yuri's sedan and was awfully hot when we moved it out of the car, at any rate Yuri was having problems doing the adjustment and had to call Ed for help and opinion as to what was going on with the scope and how to deal with the heat related issues.

.

Vahe

I bought the TEC 150 when Maks were being made by Ed, and still enjoy it, wishing I'd bought a larger brother for it. Nothing quite like a missed opportunity!

The current refractor rage is where the money is being made so we're unlikely to see any more of those fine machines again.

But(!), I eagerly await a SD120 refractor machine which, I am sure, will be every bit as fine as were the Maks so few of us have.

Vahe,
Ed remembers your Mak-Cass 250/20 optics as he was the only optician at that time. Even thought Ed was in a hurry to finish the optics on time for Riverside conference, it came out extraordinary. He still has its interferogram somewhere. 😊

David,
Your 150 Mak optics was probably an optical team work as usually Ed, Alex Rychenko and Sergey Kapinus worked in parallel on the same set.

Regards,
Lana

Hi Edward,

I am interested in your SD150. Can you explain a little bit about it and the patented lens assembly?

I suspect they don’t follow this group regularly.  You might have better luck emailing (or DM) them directly.  You could ask them to respond on this group so everyone learns.

Hi Victory,

In short, for our doublet, we match a pair of glasses (their partial dispersions) that provides min spherochromatism. However, this combination introduces a spherical aberration. So aspheric was used to eliminate it. As a result, we got correction of a triplet with two lenses in wide range of spectrum.
If you want more technical details, please check the patent.

Please PM for any questions.

Lana
