Mike, in those times things were great for teens in LA.  As an early teen, pre- 15 most ofmy adventures were bipedal. After the PAL Hop if I had some change in my pocket I would walk down through the combat zone alone and watch the drunks and highs interacting fascinated by the Harley's,and Indian's lined up in front of the bars. Not once was I concerned about confrontation it was just an chance to conduct a study of the local wildlife in their natural habitat then stopping at Howdy's Beef Burgers for a cheese burger small fry and soda and get change back from my dollar. Budget for a weekend of fun Pack of Luck Strikes .28 cents...admission to the PAL Hop .50 cents ... late supper at Howdy's .80 cents.... a movie at the Ritz Theater Saturday afternoon .25 cents. Less than 2 bucks and left me plenty of cash left from my lawn mowing, snow shoveling etc money to finance the up coming school week. My first concert was Jimi Hendrix Experience I think that was back on March 16, 1968  admission $2.50 advance  $3.00 at the door.

Over 7,000 party goers in attendance in a venue where 4,000 was max capacity. When in college at USM in the early 70's we were treated to Chicago, Zappa and the Mothers, ShaNaNa and many more.

I remember Hendrix being there but a little ahead of me getting out I think.  Being out in the country when you got old enough to be social at all wheels were a necessity.  Aside from odd jobs I worked every weekend and summers at Decoster Egg Farm from the summer before I started high school till I graduated then I ended up back there for a year when I took a semester off to back up some money for school.  You can guess how that worked out.   A friend finished CMMC construction and I went to work with him for a few years before paper mill days.

dave...  some pretty sharp pics. Are those with your phone through the eyepiece.  I’m impressed!

Yes Mike they are.,through a Baader zoom in the WO.,

The balance is so rearward that I think I will build a new cradle for it.,So I can put some weight out front .,Gotta think about it for a few days before I start cutting stuff.,It seems I often come up with a much better idea right after I finish working on the first one ,.,know what I mean.,

Gee, Mike I was thinking of you around 6 pm when a bank of hellishly dark clouds rolled in from your direction. In another month I would have said " we've caught another boomer  coming out of Buckfield"

Seems like the guys from Turner, Leeds, Sabattus, Lisbon and Lisbon Falls  were all car guys. We are all products of our environment.  Maine the way life use to be.

More  changes.,.more pictures.,It's nice when you have a lot of bits an knobs an stuff to work with,.Both pieces of wood were the right width for my project.,I scalped the V. clamp off my eq3 .,I have another .,in the mail.,

I switched tripods with the birdie scopes,.,and the Meade can go back to its scope.,  But alas.,this cradle can go right on Frank as well.,Talk about over mounted.,.That's alright.,I don't like regular mounts for stargazing.,I'll only use it for terrestrial stuff.,Best2all.,

Dave, I'm proud of you me boy!  I don't remember anyone making the improvements in..in..  scopetography that I've seen you make in such a short time.  I hope the success you are having plants the scopetography worm in the minds and shutter fingers of other Princes of Maine, Kings of New England, Knights of the Realm and Jesters to the World.

Thank you guys.,Mike.,the mount worked out pretty good,.I want to add an angle brace on it to get rid of any flex between the wood pieces.,There's a lot of weight sitting on the horizontal piece,.but as for solving the balance issues it worked well.,

The bad thing is to put it in its case you have to remove the handle and move the front ring backwards so the dewshield can retract .,I had read about this but hadn't realized how much it needed to be disassembled to fit back in .,.Not happening here, I put the case back in the cardboard box it came in and slide it under the bed.,outta sight outta mind.,I had a duffle bag that was long enough to put the scope still on the mount inside.,

Gray.,I  wonder about using the Bastovee mask for focusing.,How to.,I tried it in the daytime and it's blurred to look through,,but when it looked sharpest I removed it and the scope was focused well on the feeder.,Are you supposed to use it this way.,?

After mooning I had a look at what stars could be seen and was pleased to see perfect points of light.,no flares or tails.,but they were scarce in the moonlight,.and we were clouded in by the time luna was down.,so the mother cluster will have to wait.,Be safe,.Gray.,,keep it under 100 with the flaming trailer,.don't want the neighbors calling the fuzz on you.,.You guys and your car talk.,I grew up in a racing family.,dad drove stock cars,.and my brother drove drags.,He got into enough trouble that my parents decided I couldn't get my license until I graduated.,talk about an injustice.,I ended up not getting a license until I was 28yr old. the end.,lol.,best2all.,

  • Uncle Dave, The Bahtinov mask, is only good on stars, when you get a star centered in the eyepiece and near focus and the mask in position, an array(6)  lines will radiate from the star you can fine focus  the lines to get them as sharp as possible. Wackypedia has a good visualization of it HERE

Wild and wooly here for a bit this evening.  Getting our second round of vaccine tomorrow morning.  Word is we might be a little under the weather for a day or two.  Rumor is that you should be really well hydrated to help out.  Looks like inside weather tomorrow anyway.  After the first one I had a runny nose and was constantly cold for a couple of days, wife had no effects.

Lady Elaine and Himself had our 2nd Maderna shots last Saturday and both spent the next 3 days feeling "almost" sick and very tired. Things have turned around now and the family is looking forward to a meal out at Davinci's tomorrow. real glad that's taken care of.  Good luck with your 2nd shots.

I wanted to click “like” Dave but that would be dishonest!  It only stuck in a few places here but I’ve seen a few cars go by with a coating.  Hill people I guess.  Yeah, we have hillbillies here in Buckfield...  I like to think we’re in the suburbs but within easy travel distance to the “Mall” that offers shopping and fine dining.

It's still spitting here and the wind is getting busy.,

I'm glad I got one night out with the WO.,I'd be changing things on the setup without having even tried them.,

I did get the drive handle on.,works all good.,I have used these crutch pieces before for handles and like the bend. This time I flattened the end and it helped it to attach better.,leaving it round it starts to loosen with use. It can be taught.,.lol.,

Edit.,I ordered a padded storage bag for it that will fit it mount and laser attached.,this will have more room and easier access than the duffel.,waytogo.gif

Uncle Dave... Since no one else has mentioned it yet, I will. When are you going to anodize your mount and weights? Bling and scopetography, a natural, you could be a trend setter in the Kingdom again...still.

Industry. the Mecca of fashion in scopetography. The honor is there for you to seize, Uncle Dave.

I'm with ya Grey...  Frank would be super cool done up in the Williams color!   puppy shots done..    we're hitting the water hard just in case it helps.  I'm kinda kidney challenged so I do that anyway.

Davinci's...  I can't wait.    Friday lunch every couple of weeks for us back in the "old days"    Chicken Amore and Italian Wedding soup. Lasagna....   Been a long time..  a couple of the kids brought us a Care package from there on my wifes Bday.

I guess some paint and poly would be ok.,but I was hoping my claim to fame was going to be "RUSTIC WORKS".,.A little rust adds to the patina.,.I had to lookup anodize.,lol.,cool.gif .,

Edit.,I did change a piece of pipe from galvanized to flat black so that they all matched.,kinda fashionish.,

Uncle Dave, I can see it now White threaded pipe WO gold tees and flanges along with Black weights and your wooden parts a nice warm wood stain to accentuate its RUSTIC Pedigree... great marketing!

.,.The WO gold may be a little hard to match.,I wonder if they sell it.,I'm still thinking about making a wooden tripod. I have lots of boards.,Oak.,Cherry.,Birch.,Ash.,Something like a 3 legged table with plumbing to keep on the deck ready to go.,.I think I can make it more stable than the smaller tripods I have.,It would be mostly for daytime use .,I have the tracking mount as well which may be easier to get good moon pics. Keeping luna in the fov was a pain between focusing. lol. So many toys.,So little time.,I need stronger reading glasses too.,It's still cold and there's still snow on the ground. I haven't stepped outside today.,Life in the slow lane .,I need a secretary to help organize my busy schedule.,.Best2all.,
