Got it…. They were actually in Wellington on the Cross Rd.   The cemetery was only 100 yards behind the camp.  They were mostly ATV folks.  Great place for that.  They are mid 70’s now and kind of aged out of the hobby.

At the Laundromat today. We can wash the clothes at home, but the clothes line is too near the snow for anything to dry.

Seems like I've been coming here since last June.

My mother in law passed away yesterday, a sad occasion. She was ninety three. My wife is taking care of a lot of the things that have to be done, with help from her brothers.

I've been absent lately due to a lot going on at work, but I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

So my own astronomy update is that I managed to get out and look at some of the wild sunspots we've been having now that work has temporarily calmed down a bit. Starting to get the hang of this planetary camera on the sun. The Baader film has been a game changer in terms of the detail it can reveal vs Thousand Oaks silver black film. I also sold my largely unused drone and purchased my first refractor! I got an AT70ED. As I'm sure we've all seen the weather has been meh, but I did get some quick views in the last two nights. Jupiter was pretty good considering how low it's gotten, and the stars sharp and lack fringe. My roll-off roof observatory plans are on hold until at least next summer, sadly, but I'm cautiously optimistic it'll eventually happen.

Hope all are well and we get clear skies on 4/8 especially!

That’s the whitest CDS report I’ve seen in a long time.  On a bright note the Nat Wx service in the long range forecast says the 8th is only mostly cloudy for Jackman.  Could be worse!

I'm not sure where to find that forecast. Is it looking good for Greenville?

Weather.com Matt, just checked and Greenville and Jackman are upgraded to partly cloudy… hope the trend continues!  Better dining choices in Greeneville…. I was thinking Jackman may be less crowded but they had a little story on it and the eclipse this morning.   It’s a Maine adventcha!

Still looking forward to Jackman. ... but there is always but...

Well, that’s a 2 and a half days I hope not to have to repeat. I just enjoyed a 10 hr. ER visit and a 2 day stay in the Isolation department at CMMC and was diagnosed with Acute Hypoxemic Respiratory Failure. Gee I thought I had just joined the RSV bug club and I did test positive, but ended up causing the AHRF . I stopped breathing a couple of times. That will get your attention quick. Having won the CHF, Restrictive lung disease and diabetes lotteries they watched me close and sent me home with quite a involved instruction manual to help keep me going. Ending with it will likely take me a month or more to recover.   Along with pulminologist and cardiac Dr.  I think I’ll have to do more research to get a handle on this. Wish me luck.

geez Grey...  Hope you are getting all this stuff out of the way before summer!  Soon it will be time for some R+R in the sun or shade as your choice and some evenings in the observatory..

Scott, I've been attempting to get in touch with my cracked health team all morning I was told by the  cracked pulminologist office staff that they couldn't do anything about ARF I had to tell them the Doc had requested she be informed of any changes in my condition. They then said they would leave a note for her when she returns to work on Monday. A real " what me worry" type of place. My PCP's office did get back with me a few minutes ago and is trying to set up a longer visit than I had been blocked in for. I'll find out more this afternoon. I guess mortality rate on these issues is close to 40% so I'd sort of like to get the speed bumps ironed out of the process. Could keep me from seeing my last eclipse.

Gray, I am sorry to hear about your condition.,I know the feeling of not being able to breathe.,Good luck with your doctors.,

I picked up a zero gravity chair for the bino mount and the eclipse.,if I like it I may try to make a swivel base for it.,

I have decided to stay home for the eclipse.,The thought of being around a lot of people isn't a good one.,

Looking at the sun lately from my recliner and seeing lots of activity.,

I decided not to do any more snow removal and just let it melt.,I got no where I want to go. it only took a week and it is mostly gone.,more coming.,not a problem.,I found a good substitute for my coffee cream.,and am well stocked with all other provisions.,I'll be back outside next when you see green.,

  Best2all from Industry.,

Great to see you Dave…  Thinking about it, there’s a sense of peace and grace to not fighting the snow and just letting it melt.  I don’t think many people think about how much time we waste in our lives fighting Mother Nature instead of working our life around and with it.  I believe it would scare most of us if we could see the number of hours of life we have spent with that type of thing.  When I was clearing the lot for my first house an old guy up the road cautioned me not to clear more than I needed.  He explained to me that in Maine, water wants to be land and land wants to be woods.  You don’t have to look around too much to see that he was exactly right.

Welcome home Dave! Plans seem good for your return astronomizin.  My mind is still a bit foggier than I'd like... and through internasty foraging it seems like it could be 6 to 12 months to clear up some of the issues. I'm still awaiting responses from PCP, Pulmonologist and related medical people. I'll have to see what will  develop this week with my " health care team" The ER and hospital staff were great, and asked me to contact my HC providers within 3 days so far it seems like it will take at least that long for them to respond to my request. I've starting to walk Ripley already, short gentle sojourns to the school across the street maybe 1/4 mile of flat ice free walking. I don't want to push it much further until I can talk to my DR.s.

Love the hat!

My daughter made it and is either on my head or in my lap while I'm at home.,and now I have Miss Peg's hat with me in my lap as well.,

Thank you all for the kind words.,I'm still in a fog most days,.sleeping as much as possible to keep the sadness and anxiety at bay.,

Hug your honey for all your worth,.tell them how much you love them everyday.,Best2all in the kingdom.,

Spent the starry evening trying to capture the Rosetta Nebula…  when I last checked it a

was building some nebula I never could see through the eyepiece on the 101.  Unfortunately the battery died at some point before I could shut down manually so it’s recharging now and I should be able to pull the files down and share how much luck I had.  Looks like I’ve got plenty of time for editing before my next practice session with the SeeStar.  I’m still window limited and this imaging is interesting but I’m finding I really miss my eyepiece views… looking like a two scopes solution is needed for my short attention span..

Dave, the hat is cool…. I showed my wife and she said it wouldn’t be a good look for me with my basketball head.  I get no respect!

Yesterday I went down to the local Landing to check on the ice. Saw a beaver, it saw me and slapped his tail at the same time I took his picture. I saw two Canada geese and on my way back home I saw three deer.  A great day!

I was up late star gazing last night. I was picking out the stars in Corvus (the crow) and Crater (the goblet). Here's the odd thing: I listen to a podcast (Stardate) related to astronomy. The two latest podcasts were about Corvus and Crater! Coincidence? I believe whoever scripts my life is lazy, and copies and pastes. For example, I might think of an old sitcom I liked. A radio DJ and his cohost talked about it the next day. Or I mention an old car, next I see an article in the news paper.

I try to casually think about winning the lottery, but that never works.

You gotta think harder Scott!  It should work?   Anyway this was the product of me playing through the window.  Maybe when/if the snow season is over I can get outside and play a little more serious.  I don't know if I inadvertently was zoomed or the nebula was too big for the field of view but here's what I got so far.

The wildlife is certainly thinking spring!  We just went over to the farm to change out some seasonal decorations my wife puts out down by the road and when I got out of the truck and looked down and there were bear tracks in the driveway.  Pretty good sized fella, no cub tracks so I'm guessing a male.  Wicked long nails...  they must grow over the winter and not get worn down. Needs a manicure.  He walked up the driveway and out the back of the field. He didn't bother the barn.  We don't leave anything food wise or maple syrup in there..  Hungry I bet  :-)   There had been a bear last year that bothered a neighbors old camp...  maybe that's where he spent the winter  :-)

No geese yet here.  We did hear a flight last week.  Last year we were down on Long Island visiting my wife"s sister and there's a park and school near them and there were so many geese that live year round down there now there are services with trained dogs that hire out to drive them out of places where they are a problem. We would sure cure some hunger issues if Canadian Geese were easier to cook so they tasted decent.

Mike, your SeeStar is impressive. Nice open cluster...and beginnings of rosette nebulousness. You're going to be fun to watch mature in AP. It was great seeing Dave and his ONE HAT to rule them ALL. Time for a group hug.grouphug.gif

You're going to Jackman Grey? I would love to, I just don't know where I'd set myself up. I feel like Rangeley we have a slightly better sense of the land and could probably find somewhere (eventually). Davy, as you know, we can pick you up on our way out of Farmington, if you change your mind.

Due to my recent health issues and weather forecast I'm waiting for this afternoons PCP appointment before locking any plans in place.
