With fear of destroying Duncan's possibly excellent deal, no. It's a scam or a gimmick, depending on how you look at it.

Clear skies!

Scammers, same as paying money to one of the star registry websites.

I bought land on the moon as a birthday present for myself a few years ago. At the time I knew it was a gag, but I wanted it, and it made me laugh when I really needed to. Is it legal, yes. Is it worth anything, that depends on who you ask? Mine, yes, and most people who bought them might answer the same way. you see items were bought for love or laughs. And this old world could use a lot more of both.

I don't plan to buy but both sites are fun, which I imagine is what most buyers will have in mind.

The last item on the Lunar site FAQ--

"This is a novel gift and for entertainment purposes only."

BuyersMars.com is a bit more fun or if you insist more misleading.

"It is true! You too can become a Planet Mars Land Owner by purchasing acres of land on Planet Mars. LUNAR LAND company is the world’s most recognized Celestial Real Estate Agency and has been selling land on the Planet Mars for decades. Lunar Land is one of THE FIRST companies in the world to possess a legal TRADEMARK and COPYRIGHT for the sale of extraterrestrial property within the confines of our solar system. DON'T BE FOOLED BY PHONY LUNAR COMPANIES WITH NO CLAIM!"

The full explanation of space law is actually very clever as is the assertion that while they have the right to sell both Mars and the moon, everyone doing so is else is a fraud. :scratchhead:

I have closely examined the pictures from the latest Pluto flyby (New Horizons), but was unable to find it. Is it so small? A wooden plank only?

As I read the Outer Space Treaty:

Article II
Outer space, including the moon and other celestial bodies, is not subject to national appropriation by claim of sovereignty, by means of use or occupation, or by any other means.

It seems to me that individuals and corporations could theoretically claim land on the Moon or other bodies.  However, this means nothing if they can't enforce it.  So, if SpaceX or some other private company landed a base or mining equipment on the Moon, they would be able to claim that land.
