I used my C8 Newt riding on a AVX mount, with a Canon 550D unmodded. I was guided but like I said I only went 300 sec on my exposures. I was starting to get a little chilly that night.

Again, it's a good shot, but the processing is very brown. You did get better contrast this time. What are you using to process these shots?

Well I processed with star tools, and I did bring a little color out but was not pleased with it, I may try and add a little more time to it, that should help, thanks for your input.

I redid M51 and worked on my processing in the color mod of star tools, here's what I got this time, and thanks for your input.M51 redo.jpg

Excellent image!

The detail in the spiral arms shows well the resolving power of an 8"(200 mm) class mirror in a Newtonian compared to the less detailed images taken with small (80 mm class) refractors.

Very nice and with modest tools similar to mine. I, too, use an unmodded DSLR, a newtonian reflector and a AVX mount these days. Lance Armstrong famously stated, "It's not about the bike!" I think your image is a fitting analog to that.
