This discussion will primarily look at performing H-alpha mod on Sony a7RII. Performing a cooling mod while you have camera open makes logical sense and is becoming a common trend. Details forthcoming...

With the invention of 'Cold finger Inside...', it is becoming desirable to perform astro and cooling modification at the same time. Why open camera two times when you can do it in one?

Note: EOS to NEX adapter shown for using Canon lenses with Sony alpha; telescope use will not require such an adapter!

Let me guess,

another use of the forum for guerrilla marketing along the lines of this content:

"‘Cold finger Inside’ for Sony IBIS, e.g., a7RII"

No, this is a deeper look at a7RII H-alpha mod which may not have been covered by anyone to the extent you may see here. Regards

Copper 'Cold finger Inside' installation...

Yellow tape covering copper tape is for electrical and thermal insulation

Note: Cold finger comes in direct contact with CMOS backside via window in the sensor PCB

While copper tape sticks to CMOS via native thermal conducting adhesive, a plastic retainer is installed for added security; finally the area gets insulated with custom and native materials

Houston, we have a problem...

IMPORTANT: A post Full-Spectrum mod dark shows severe light pollution from an internal light source. After much investigation, this has now been "confirmed" to be a 'known' problem with a7RII. There is a light source in/around the shutter mechanism that gets exposed after a full-spectrum mod. Stay turned for its remediation!

Oh my, i will never do that to my A7r [not II], even if i bought A7rII and kept A7r i won't modify my A7r, this is so so scary to open my camera.

Well, i was hoping for kind of clip-in or even a filter to use for my Sony A7r rather than modify from inside, even with my Canon cameras i won't do it unless i buy a specific camera for modification, but i will try to find a filter that i can use for my A7r either using Canon lenses by E-mount to Canon or using the scope.

...I was hoping for kind of clip-in or even a filter to use for my Sony A7r rather than modify from inside

Mods are the name of the game when it comes to AP; no filter other than internal mod will compensate for it. Everyone knows that!

As I said above, there are options, stay tuned...

a7R and a7RII are completely different animals; people have done a7R full-spectrum mods without such issues and the reason is that a7R had no LPFs; no LPFs meant there weren't IR sources inside to begin with, no IR sources meant full-spectrum had no issues. Sony had their head attached while they designed a7R.

a7RII 'has' LPFs as I show above; removing them in a full-spectrum mod exposes the internal light pollution which otherwise would have been blocked by the LPFs. This is a Sony design flaw [I am sure intentional] but I would call it a blunder; but we have some choices which I'll get into next. Regards

Internal mod is really scary, i use Sony A7r as my main photography camera, so no way i will modify it for AP and sacrifice my other photography, i may do that modding to one of my old Canon DSLRs, also i was thinking or planning to sell my A7r so i can upgrade to A7rII, so i won't touch it internally.

I will keep watching around and see what you guys bringing out, keep going.
