Mayflower Astronomical Telescope 814   http://www.ebay.com/...RMAAOSwR29ZC6t3

That Mayflower 814 by APL appears to be in quite good condition. They are amazing little scopes. I can't extoll their virtues enough. This one appears to be a time capsule. I wish I could see the inside to determine if it has wood or styrofoam inserts. If wood, then it is just like my (first owner) 1965.

Put a Vixen 1.25" adapter on it, and they're pure dee fun, too!  Mine is my Solar Scope of Choice, and does a darn good job on the Moon & Messiers for its aperture.

The only issue I've seen is that the altitude gear gets loose -- like the two bolts holding it on wallow-out over time -- but it's an easy fix.  Mine is the Yamamoto rather than the APL.

It looks like one of the objective spacers has slipped, but that's easily fixed.

Did someone here purchase the Swift 831 that sold on eBay today? I was tempted at that price, but didn't want to be greedy. :)

Not me, but I hope a CNer got it.  At just $405 + shipping, that was a Good Deal.

You don't see many of the 4" ETXs for sale.  Sorry if you're like me and don't quite consider tupperware telescopes classics quite yet:  https://orangecounty...6113439422.html

They were made for only a short time, since 12mm isn't a huge gain over 90mm, but 25mm is a huge loss from 127mm.

This is why we post some ads here:

Mayflower 814, 60mm x 700mm  looks to be in great, if not excellent shape. Includes the wooden box that also looks great.

Price includes shipping!!

Someone should jump on this right now. (IMHO)

http://www.ebay.com/...RMAAOSwR29ZC6t3

This looks in better shape than my Manon, and I paid more for it!   Only difference is the name.  Both my Manons give very good views.

(I don't want or need 3, lol.gif )

It was posted day before yesterday and I made a similar recommendation yesterday. I am surprised it is still available.

Edit.  dup, I did see it.  Kept thinking Manon, not Mayflower.

This looks exactly like a Unitron. I have a very old one without any lettering on the lens cell and it looks just like that. The lack of any kind of marking on the focuser is very mysterious! What do you think?

I would be scared to touch one of them also for any price.  If the motors go you are done.
