400 too much.

Someone just sold an "in the box" 10" LX200 locally here for $600

I would be scared to touch one of them also for any price.  If the motors go you are done.

Worth the price of a good vintage ota, because that is what it is destined for.

This is why we post some ads here:

Mayflower 814, 60mm x 700mm  looks to be in great, if not excellent shape. Includes the wooden box that also looks great.

Price includes shipping!!

Someone should jump on this right now. (IMHO)

http://www.ebay.com/...RMAAOSwR29ZC6t3

This looks in better shape than my Manon, and I paid more for it!   Only difference is the name.  Both my Manons give very good views.

(I don't want or need 3, lol.gif )

It was posted day before yesterday and I made a similar recommendation yesterday. I am surprised it is still available.

Someone got it! Good job! waytogo.gif

If I didn't already have one that's in great condition, it would have been me! wink.gif

I could care less about any 60mm achromat but that one is in very nice condition. Including shipping, that's not a bad price either. Buyers forget how expensive shipping is today!

Tasco 10TE 76.2mm Refractor  http://www.ebay.com/...PUAAOSwrhBZDm7B

MEADE 395 1000MM F11 OTA   - Taiwan - http://www.ebay.com/...94AAOSwrhBZDi4h

Tasco 10TE.  With shipping, this would be well over $400.  Too much for this scope IMO.  I do hope it sells at some notable price though as I have an obligation with a donated lens for one I shattered. I also have two of these mounts in the basement so probably another OTA somewhere......  The posted one could be worth more if it had the earlier all wood cradle box instead of the Styrofoam.  Stephen could probably detail this scope since the ad does give some detailed pictures. I do like the scope and mount. It does have quality and not just intrinsic collectability, but not over 400 for me.

The Meade 395, same OTA as the 390. The 395 was on the EQ and the 390 on the alt/az. Good optics, nice tube, nice cell, just OK focuser if the plastic slider tabs are still solid and in place.  The focuser housing is tapered inside and requires a tapered shim insertion to work.  The plastic sliders Meade layered in the housing tend to fail. They crack up, they fall out. It's not a bad fix if you are half competent in tinker, and an easy fix to even upgrade if you are handy. I've fixed a few at least. Honestly a nice performing 90mm with the focuser set.  The Orion version of the same era is practically identical but has a better focuser. I'd go 100 TOTAL for an Orion, if I was looking for one. The asking price for the 395 is reasonable for a desiring buyer.

Yes, there is that and it got me into a mess. I have happily pared down to scopes I really enjoy using. If anything else come in, then something has to go and that is a hard decision.

Pretty good condition but it does seem a bit overpriced for what you get. I've been fascinated by these "pancake" equatorial mounts that RAO made...anyone know when these were made (I always thought they were older than the usual RAO mounts but the Styrofoam in the case belies that)

Just remember the 3 yeses, if yes to these 3 questions if will make the 'should I? or should I not'

decision a yes. This is what I use myself:

Does a mechanic need more than a Swiss army knife fix every conceivable problem

with your auto?

If you were to go skydiving and physically exit the airplane while its in motion at 10,000

feet, is a parachute a requirement?

Is it a telescope?

This particular 10TE-5 will date from around 1969 up thru early 1970s before Tasco replaced the 10TE-5 with the 10K TOWA version.

I hate when you can not enlarge the photos on ebay ads enough to be able to tell what condition the scope is really in.

For newbies here, always request better photos if you can not look at the item in person.

To help anyone out who might be interested in the scope, PM me for pictures of that scope from the previous CL ad showing the condition more clearly.

12.5" Newtonian with GEM and accessories. This one has been available for a few weeks and the owner just dropped the price $1,000 to $800. The OTA looks to be in great shape with a curved spider and fully flocked. However, the mount has seen better day. Does anyone know what kind of mount that is?

The mount looks like an ATM job or a heavily modified commercial mount (I'm thinking its more of an ATM job). The rotating rings though look like they are from a Cave.

On second look I'd say this is an ATM job from the way the RA axis is bolted on and the concrete counterweight. Not a pretty mount, but you gotta admire the builder's DIY drives.

The mount looks to me like it needs to be headed for the junk yard!
